With the addition of scent work, our building has gone from busy to Very Busy. Every space is being used multiple times a week by different teachers and students which is good news because keeping our facility busy is what pays the bills. However, with a growing number of activities, the need to be respectful of each other becomes more important than ever, so I offer these suggestions: 1. Just like Momma told you, if you use something, put it back where you found it. That includes cones, jumps, toys, office supplies and so on and that applies to all areas of the facility. 2. Communication is the key. If there is an issue, discuss it and look for a resolution that works for everyone. We all have to share the space. 3. Put your name on personal items. If unmarked, it’s assumed to be OCOD property. 4. Avoid handling scent work items. We are creating separate, clearly marked areas for scent work storage. Due to the amazing power of dog noses, it’s critical that scent work items not be handled unless authorized by Lind. The spirit of cooperation will allow all of us to train our dogs to our heart’s content and maintain one of the nicest club facilities in the country. Diane Shultz (AKC Senior Obedience & Rally Field Rep.)

She will be reviewing the changes to the Obedience Regulations that become effective May 1st.

President’s Message, Dear members,

Scent work is coming! Scent work is coming! Well actually, thanks to OCOD member Lind Weaver, scent work is already here and many of you are enjoying the classes, seminars, and trials Lind has held in our facility in this popular, fast growing canine sport.

Important Notice for April Club Meeting

We will be discussing and voting on a new floor scrubber for the Training Center at the

April meeting. The one we have now is slow and so difficult to use, only a small

number of members can handle it – an increasing problem as many of us are “mature.”

A new small riding scrubber can clean and pick up the cleaning solution with one sweep

across the floor and is so easy to use, anyone can do it. Projected purchase cost is

$6,300+tax.

Obedience Club of Daytona General Meeting Minutes March 12, 2018Meeting was called to order by Pat Mozden at 7:10PM. Sign in sheet was passed around and is attached to hard copy of minutes. 21 members were present and Niles Bailey was our guest.Wins and brags were announced and are in the newsletter if you emailed them to Joan. Minutes of the last meeting were published in the newsletter and so were not read at the meeting. No additions or corrections were made.Report of the secretary: New members were Bob Balas from DeLand who would like to help with classes and Danielle Ramsey from New Smyrna Beach.Report of the Treasurer:Bob

February Expenses: $8,705.68 (Rent was ~$2.9K and Trials ~$1.8K)February Income: $6,746.64 (Classes ~$4.4K and seminars ~$1.2K)January Tracking Tests: Income: $570.00 and expenses: $554.12.

Report of the Board of Directors: Pat reported a thank you note from Atlantic High for our donation to them in exchange for help from their

students.Pat reported that the offer to sponsor area humane societies for the Sternberg seminar was so well

received that they are each sending an additional person. The board also approved sponsoring the Edgewater humane society. Pat will personally sponsor Putnam County after learning that they are interested in improving their operation.Old Business:

MWD: Ralph reported 16 Mutt Muffs and cots were sent to a Korean kennel.Website Password: Ralph reported that the members only password is ocod1982.Posters in Front Window: Dana reminded us that anyone can have their poster displayed in our front

window. Vista Print or Sams are two places to have them done. Give her a call and she will arrange to display them or answer any questions. Now is a good time to be thinking about putting up a dance photo.

Public Education: Sandy reported on the 4Ever Fitness event. She ran with her dog in matching outfits. She wore her club shirt and her dog wore a club bandana. Our next event is a teen program summer event. More info to follow.

Sign Out Front: Al’s Signs who did our original sign reported that the damage to it is not normal wear. It looks like there may have been some sort of cleaning solution applied to it. He will create and install a new sign for $425 plus tax. Cleaning Day: Pat thanked all who came out to clean our building. We were not able to clean the entire floor because the batteries were running low on both the scrubber and our workers. Claire will look in to purchasing a second machine so that we can get the entire floor cleaned in less time. She will also get a price on a riding machine since it requires only one pass and can be used by a lot more people. We’d like to make a decision on this before the July trial.

New Business:

Program Next Month: will be about the new obedience regulations that go in to effect on May 1 Diane Schultz will be our speaker.

Non-anesthetic Teeth Cleaning: will be held for $150 per dog. Nina briefly explained what is involved. There is a discount for two dogs and it will be held on March 31st at the training building. The next cleaning will be September 22nd. Cats can also be done. Each session is approximately 20 minutes. Sign up with Nina for a time slot.

Sinks upstairs: were draining slowly after our last cleaning day. Maintenance will be asked to check on them. Ralph reminded us to empty the mop buckets downstairs in the mop room.

Seminar Credits: It was decided that in the event there are working spots left open as it gets close to the seminar date – as in several days before – members can use seminar credits to pay for half the seminar fee. It is hoped that this will allow us to still cover the cost of the seminar.

(Minutes Continued)

Raffle Baskets: Since this project is abandoned for now, we will be taking this opportunity to neaten our storage areas. Everyone is asked to label any personal belongings and store them in their locked crates. Items used for trials and/or classes should be labeled or placed inside labeled containers so like things can be stored together. Things that are only used once a year may be stored upstairs. We will try to find good homes for all the leftover raffle items if the donors have not already removed them.

Scentwork: Linda Brendlinger passed around a sign up sheet to work at our Sniff n Go and reminded us to volunteer for our Scentwork trial May 19 and 20.

Shirley motioned we adjourn at 7:56PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chris Franczek
