Industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie said, “A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.” This certainly rings true for Chattahoochee Hills’ own free library managed by our local non-profit organization, Community Brickworks. “Brickworks,” as most residents call it, does far more than loan books and it is now the season for some of their most important work: providing meaningful Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays for families who are struggling financially. How does this happen? Simply, Chattahoochee Hills friends and neighbors are called to give…or serve…or help…we are called to be that never failing spring. Judy Henderson, co-founder of Community Brickworks, provided the ChattAbout with a list of projects planned for the remainder of 2019. To date, there are approximately 50 families who will receive Thanksgiving and Christmas meal boxes. (As always, this number is expected to rise.) Families/Individuals, businesses, organizations and churches may sponsor a family meal for either or both holidays. The Christmas season allows opportunity to play Santa Claus as well! In addition to the Christmas meal, Brickworks also provides gifts to children. Residents may come to city hall and take a tag(s) off of “The Giving Tree” located in the lobby. This has been a tradition for several years and it is wonderful to see the tree free of tags by mid-December. Brickworks volunteers wrap the gifts before they are

Morgan Boszilkov Lindsey is a self-taught artist using clay, fabric and paint to create two-dimensional and sculptural vibrant works of art. She comes from a family of professional artists and inspired by nature, her travels to Asia and Europe, and the various materials with which she works, Morgan taught herself to knit and sew growing up in Atlanta, to paint in Boston, to crochet in Madrid, intricate beadwork in Kyushu, Japan, to make handbags and clothing in Wilkes-Barre, to felt wool, design landscapes and carve wood in Alpharetta, and most recently to produce ceramics in Decatur. Her eclectic travels and self-taught craftsmanship culminated into a successful line of eco-friendly wedding gowns, Natural Bridal Collection by Morgan Boszilkov. Her

gown designs were featured in Brides Magazine, Skirt!, CNN, OneWed, and Style Me Pretty and she even designed a dress for Melissa Rivers, during TLC’s “Who are you wearing?” design challenge, and won the competition. Her current ceramic work featuring handmade tiles has been highlighted in the Atlanta Journal Constitution and HGTV. She experiments with the concept of wabi-sabi and beauty in imperfection, exploring various materials and always experimenting with new techniques. The process of art is an impatient meditation that brings her joy and fulfillment.

An Evening with Author Richard LouvHosted by Steve Nygren & Laura Turner SeydelDate/Time: November 7, 2019, 5:30-7pmLocation: Gainey Hall, 10640 Serenbe LaneCost: $30.17 ticket needed and includes the book Website: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-richard-louv-for-our-wild-calling-new-book-launch-tickets-76453072197

Tickets are required. Paid tickets guarantee a seat and a copy of the book. Free tickets may be standing room only. Complimentary refreshments (beer, wine, tea, water) will be provided.

Over a decade ago, Richard Louv’s Last Child in the Woods identified the growing generational gap between children and the natural world. That book introduced the term “nature-deficit disorder,” which has entered the language and helped launch an international movement to connect children, their families and communities to nature. Now, after four years of research, Louv defines the future of human-animal coexistence. Our Wild Calling explores the powerful and mysterious bond between humans and

other animals, how it can transform our lives — and how it can save theirs. He makes the case that deepening our connection with other animals, both wild and domestic, can improve our mental, physical and spiritual lives; serve as an antidote to the growing epidemic of human loneliness; and is essential to the preservation of life on Earth.5:30pm Reception6pm Author Talk and Q&A7pm Book Signing

KNOW FIRST WHO YOU ARE, AND ADORN YOURSELF ACCORDINGLY. -EPICTETUS

I love this quote from Epictetus. He is urging us, way back in the first century, to “wear our backstory.” To show our true selves through our accessories. To choose each day to dress with intention and authenticity. To know who we are and try to show more of that every day.

Weaving the smallest precision-cut beads and incorporating semi-precious stones and crystals, I design jewelry for grown-up women. Women with history. Women who know the best way to inspire hope, change and possibility is to show up every day and be seen.

I handcraft each piece in my Serenbe studio. With each design, I hope to craft a piece that someone will find

beautiful or delightful or exquisite…the forever accessory that hits the zone of perfect balance where the inside and outside align. Crayola-box brights with deepest plum? Sapphires with leather? Oh, yes! Jewelry for days when we feel lofty and days when we feel lowly. Jewelry for the journey forward.

I hope you find something you love here. Something simply elegant or something you can make a statement in. When you choose a Backstory design, you not only support my small studio, but all profits from the sale of my designs go to support the work of Doctors Without Borders. Because life is so much sweeter when we journey forward together.

Community AnnouncementsEVERYTHING’S FINE WHEN YOU HAVE WINEOpening a wine store was only a dream for Lucas Barry. He was invited to join a private wine club at age 21 (the next youngest member was 50) by sommelier Kirk Gibson and was “immediately attracted to the infinite knowledge of the wine industry.” Fifteen years later, he was looking for a change. Space came available in Serenbe and Lucas went for it.

While designing the store’s interior, Lucas knew he wanted a unique feature wall. He came across a European wine store that used plywood to make round shelves for merchandising wine, which gave him the idea to source barrels from Napa Valley, cut them in half and stack them to create the wall. The metal shelves inside the barrels were a collaborative effort with another Serenbe business, Gault Designs, so bottles could be securely stored and displayed.

Fine wood working is another hobby of Lucas’s, so he used the shop as an opportunity to showcase that talent as well. Lucas designed and made all the wine racking in the store from scratch and built the custom farm table used for private tastings as well as the register checkout. He also used an old Delta flight attendant cart - traded to him by a Serenbe neighbor for a bottle of wine - and a U-chill from Danny Seo to create a one-of-a-kind wine chiller.

The Wine Shop’s selection is from producers around the world that Lucas has loved and enjoyed for years, as well as those suggested through establishing distributor relationships and regular tastings. He works with The Inn at Serenbe’s conference team to host corporate tastings and private events, but is also open to anyone who wants to stop in for a glass - or bottle - of wine. Lucas also started a Wine Club of his own, which he hopes enthusiasts will enjoy and those new to wine will find the passion for it that he felt in his first club.

The biggest perk of the job? Lucas has tasted over 1,200 wines in 2019 to be able to offer the 140 curated labels in the store. Not bad for a day’s work.

The Wine Shop at Serenbe is in the Selborne neighborhood, formerly the Spa at Serenbe space. Stop by for a glass at Lucas’s custom table or in the outdoor courtyard, or visit the website for more information on the Wine Club.
