We work alongside partners in rural communities to improve access to life-saving HIV treatment and care for the 34 million people living with HIV today. Within this we are concentrating on improving services to pregnant women living with HIV to help achieve an HIV-free generation.

Treatment has become so effective we are now seeing children born HIV-free, whilst

keeping parents alive and families together. But there are currently around nine million people living with HIV who have limited or no access to this life-saving treatment and care, the majority of which are living in rural sub-Saharan Africa.

As access to healthcare services in these parts of the world have been improving, the number of AIDS-related deaths has been falling. The number of children born with HIV has also been decreasing, and today we have the opportunity to build a world free of AIDS.

One fun way that you can support families and children suffering from the effects of HIV and AIDS is to host an ice cream party.

Pick up some ice cream and cones from your local supermarket. You may also want to get some funky toppings - what about a best-dressed ice cream competition for those with a more creative streak?

We suggest that you charge an entry fee for the evening, or accept donations throughout.

Q WHY DID YOU WANT TO

THROW A PARTY?

The people of London may be very connected to what’s going on in the world but it’s very easy to ignore the problems and get on with our own busy lives. I felt the need to make people aware of the cause by putting on an ice cream event.

I hosted it at Kahaila, a great community-focused café, and we just wanted people to have a good time and enjoy the music.

We had two acoustic acts performing, along with card games, drinks, and of course ice cream.

THE EVENT?

I promoted it through Facebook, posting «��Ì�Ã�>�`�Û�`i�Ã�Õ«�����Þ��Ü��«À�w�i�>Ã�well as an event page. I also posted regularly on Twitter, whilst Kahaila did the same. Word of mouth, emailing around a few churches and texting everyone in my phone book were the other ways I promoted the event.

Yes I did, we had a little speech in between our two musical acts. I felt it went really well, and I’m sure the second time around it will be even better!
