Charlotte Lynn (Harris) Wright, age 86, of San Luis Obis- po, California died July 10, 2021. Charlotte and her hus- band, Sherman Lewis Wright lived for more than twenty- five years in San Luis Obispo after having raised a family in Tara Hills, San Pablo, California. Born in New Ulm, Minnesota, Charlotte was a proud graduate of Sleepy Eye High School and even prouder Miss Sleepy Eye of 1952. She thoroughly enjoyed attend- ing several multi-class reunions and sharing ongoing email shenanigans with her classmates. Charlotte was an avid folk dancer, meeting her soon-to- be husband at local dances attended by both of their fam- ilies. Folk dancing evolved into square dancing. Among the multiple clubs they joined she was most proud of their years in the Squarenaders exhibition team. After raising four children, Charlotte returned to Contra Costa Junior College and in time earned an Associate of Arts degree from Marin Junior College. It was during these years that Charlotte entered the education field as a para educator supporting struggling students with reading and math. She loved working with these young students. Later, she attended Cuesta Junior College taking high interest college classes in painting, yoga, and music. Mrs. Wright was a piano teacher for more than three decades. Most of that was while living in Tara Hills in San Pablo in the Bay Area, but she also had students af- ter retiring in San Luis Obispo. Charlotte guided a num- ber of her students into the Certificate of Merit program and she was a long time member of the Central Coast Music Teachers Association. She stayed in contact with several students and was always thrilled when yet another reached out to her. The family became involved with the American Field Service exchange student program in the late seventies. Charlotte first served as a host mother, hosting five stu- dents over time, yet was soon the student liaison officer for all AFS exchange students for the then Richmond Uni- fied School District. She delightedly hung a world map in the family room filled with pins and labels placed by the more than three dozen students from around the world who visited her home. The first three exchange students, Ute Schuller and Silke Emde from Germany and Gut- torm Jacobsen from Norway, are still in contact, having exchanged letters, email, and returned for visits over the years. Most of Charlotte’s personal time was consumed with sewing. She was happiest when the wardrobe for a local theatre production had to be designed, purchased, sewed and assembled, not to mention the well over one hundred square dance dresses and matching men’s shirts and ties she designed, that always fit beautifully. Charlotte is survived by her husband of 66 years, Sher- man Lewis Wright, her son Donald Lewis Wright and daughter, Lori Annette Cole, as well as nine grandchil- dren, Daniel, Dallas, Levi, Rebecca, Lacey, Spencer, Kris- tina, Tanya, and Lewis and four, soon to be five, great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Pugh and Velma Charlotte Harris, her brothers Virgil Harris and Marshall Harris, as well as her daughters, Carolyn Louise Wright and Linda Marie Tulley. There will be an outdoor Celebration of Life on October 16, 2021 at Meadow Park in San Luis Obispo near the barbecue area. Charlotte has been buried at San Luis Cem- etery. Please consider sending donations in her memory to Nature Conservancy or Planned Parenthood in lieu of flowers. Charlotte Wright ~ 86 years ~ Resident of San Luis Obispo and San Pablo, CA
