(CCNews/File Photo) by Cri Fie CHARLEVOIX – This season the Rayders have adopted a new slogan, “No Retrea t, No Surren- der,” and new coach Joe Pruch- nicki has those Rayders working hard to embrace that and improve on last seasons 4-5 record. “I'm recently retired (from teaching), enthusiastic and disci- plined,” Pruchnicki said. “I love to coach and teach, I feel very blessed to get to do what I want in life.” With former coach Don Jess re- signing in December of 2011, Charlevoix hired Jason Katt in April only to see him step down before the season even got under- way with job security concerns in early June, thus opening the door for Pruchnicki. Coach Pruchnicki brings with him over 40 years of coaching ex- perience, including the last six at Flat Rock High School, where he led the Rams to an 18-36 career record, including 3-6 last fall. He also was the head coach at Os- coda, Flint Central, Flint South- western Aca demy , Lake Fenton and Goodrich high schools, and was an assistant coach at Flint Powers Catholic and Swartz Creek. Pruchnicki is excited about the effort from the Rayder athletes,  just over a week into practice, and their off-season work ethic as well. “So far, were looking really good, the kids are learning the system at a fast rate, much faster than any other team that I've ever coached,” he said. “I credit that to the student-athletes and their aca- demic rating here in Charlevoix.” The coach also noted that the seniors have really stepped for- ward as leaders and this off-sea- son has been tough on them. “This is new for both the staff “We will be ready to play foot- ball,” the coach said. “We will be focused, aggressive and disci- plined each time we take the field.” “I'm excited to be here, its a great community and a great place to live, so far everyone has been great, we look forward to an exciting year .  VOLLEYBALL

by Cri Fie

CHARLEVOIX – VeteranCharlevoix High School volleyball

coach Liz Shaw recently announcedher plans to take a year off from her

coaching position and focus on herfamily, as she and her husband Matt

are expecting their second child in

early September.“My plan is to take a year off and

be back next year,” Shaw said. “It'sdifferent not being in the g ym right

now, but this is a good thing.”Filling her shoes this season will

be long-time assistant and JV coach

Audra Randall.“Audra has been with the program

eight years,” Shaw noted. “Sheknows the program and she knows

the girls and were confident in herability to lead the team.”

Randall takes over a squad that

won their regional and reached theClass C semifinals last fall for the

first time in school history.Charlevoix also is the reigning Lake

Michigan Conference champions, atitle that they have held for the last

four seasons.

“We have a solid program in placewith a lot of great players return-

ing,” the coach said.Over her 11 year tenure, Shaw has

compiled a 380-138-68 overall recordand gone 130-20 in the LMC.

"It was a hard decision, but an

easy one at the same time," she said."Family comes first and you only get

one chance to be a mom to your childat such a young age. I feel really good

about the decision.”“I'm definitely going to miss the

game, the players, the coaches and

the program as a whole,” Shawadded. “Audra is going to do a great

job with the girls and she is very

supportive about handing back overthe program after the year, this will

be a good growth phase for the both

of us, and will only help the pro-

gram.

Shaw also said that while it will betough to stay away, she intends on at-

tending some games later in the sea-

son to support the team.

With a broad range of bodystyles and proven, fuel-efficient

power rains, the 2013 Silverado

1500 can tackle just about any job a truck owner can imagine –

from hauling equipment and acrew to a job site to towing a

camper for a family vacation.Silverado’s chiseled design and

broad-shouldered stance reflect

the no-nonsense capability thathave defined Chevy trucks for

nearly 95 years, and give Silver-ado a confident, firmly planted

stance.Reflecting the importance of

low cost of ownership to full-

size pickup customers, Silver-ado continues to offer proven V-8

power with an EPA highway es-timate of 21 mpg for main-

stream 2WD or 4WD models, anda 22-mpg highway estimate for

the Silverado XFE. Silverado’s

capable, efficient powertrainshave helped make it the most de-

pendable, longest-lasting full-size pickup, backed by a

five-year/100,000-mile limitedpowertrain warranty.

Silverado’s full-size truck ar-

chitecture enables a smooth rideand confident handling, without

compromising the capability

that is so important to pickupcustomers. A lineup of powerfulsmall-block V-8 engines and six-

speed automatic transmissions

complement the strong chassisby enabling a maximum payload

capacity of 1,937 pounds (838kg). When equipped with the

available max trailering pack-

age and the 6.2L V-8, the Silver-ado 1500 can tow up to 10,700

pounds (4,853 kg).Powertrain grade braking is

now included in all six-speed au-tomatic transmissions. This fea-

ture reduces brake rotor

temperatures 100 degrees Cel-sius on grade tests by downshift-

ing transmission gears, thereby

reducing brake applications onlong downhill conditions.Silverado 1500 offers a full

lineup of pickups to meet al-

most any need, including WT,LS, LT, XFE and LTZ models, as

well as the unique Silverado1500 Hybrid – the industry’s

only hybrid full-size truck. Sil-verado 1500 models are available

in three cab styles – regular, ex-

tended and crew cab – as well as

three cargo box lengths: 5 foot 8inches (short), 6 foot 6 inches

(standard) and 8 foot (long).A stadium-style rear seat with

a 60/40-split design and foldingcenter armrest is standard on

crew cab models and available

on extended cab models. It canbe easily folded up with one

hand, without using a releasehandle, to provide an uninter-

rupted load floor. Alternatively,

either section of the split seatcan be stowed independently, al-

lowing room for both cargo anda rear-seat passenger. Rear ac-

cess doors open 170 degrees foreasy entry to the rear seat/stor-

age area of extended cab mod-

els. Power-operated rear sidewindows lower completely into

the 170-degree access doors, pro-viding 100-percent openness on

LT and LTZ models.

Question & Answers AboutSelling Real Estate

How to prepare for a seamless

transitionIf you’re moving this summer,

the busiest season for moving,

you know how daunting it can be.But if you create a blueprint for

your move, the transition fromhouse to house will go more

smoothly.

Here are 2 more things you can

do to prepare for a seamless tran-

sition.

9. Consider getting full value in-

surance protection. If using a

professional mover, it may cost a

few dollars extra, but it provides

peace of mind and eliminates

later annoyances. Investing in full

value protection means any lost

or damaged articles will be re-

paired or replaced, or a cash set-

tlement will be made at current

market value, regardless of age.

It’s important to note that the re-

quired minimum coverage of 60

cents per pound would not cover

the replacement cost of more ex-

pensive items such as a flat

screen TV if damaged in transit.

10. Know your rights. If using a

professional mover, research your

rights as a consumer with either

the Federal Motor Carrier Safety

Administration (FMCSA) for in-

terstate moves or contact the state

agency within the state in which

you reside for moves within state.

Also, enlist the help of the Better

Business Bureau (BBB) or local

law enforcement if the moving

company fails to live up to its

promises or threatens to hold

your belongings hostage. FMCSA

requires interstate movers to

offer arbitration to help settle dis-

puted claims.
