Food For Thought… I thought I would share some nutrition information with you. Did you know: 40% of Australian children have an

unhealthy diet. ADHD behaviours were significantly

reduced after food additives E110, E129, E102, E104, E122, E124 were removed from the child’s diet.

60% of children taken off dairy products showed significant improvements in concentration and behaviour.

More than 90% of people diagnosed with depression, behavioural disorders, ADHD, autism and schizophrenia have low plasma zinc levels.

Yesterday I was reminded of an app “Chemical Maze” which gives all the ingredients and preservatives of food. This makes it easier if you’re in the supermarket and want to research a particular item on the spot! Why not use the holiday break to find and cook some healthy recipes that are sugar free for your family? Hypocrates said: “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food “It’s worth thinking about! Holiday Reads! Often parents ask about great books for their children to read in the holidays. This list was recommended to me: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/guide/essentialbooks Find that great, quiet spot under the shade of a huge tree and enjoy reading in the holidays! First Day 2019 The first day for the teachers and office staff in 2019 is Tuesday 29 January. Classes for students in years 1 to 6 in 2019, start on Wednesday 30 January 2019. Kindergarten students starting in 2019 have Best Start interviews from Wednesday, 30 January until Friday 1 February with Mrs Taylor and Miss Darcy. Times have already been booked in with the Office. All students in Kinder 2019 start on Monday 4 February.

Christmas Carols Thank you to the many families who joined us at our carols in the playground last Friday. It was a really fabulous afternoon with many people in fine voice! Special thanks to Olivia Pohl (mum of Sylvie in K/1) who took control of the microphone and kept us all in tune!!

Library Books It’s time to have the great cleanout for any lost or misplaced library books or home readers that are at your house. Mrs Saville is conducting the Library stocktake and would greatly appreciate all books being returned as soon as possible. Similarly, home readers can be returned to your child’s classroom ready for the end of the year clean up. “So Long Farewell….” This year many of our wonderful Yr 6 families finish their primary school journey and move on to high school. We especially thank the following parents who have supported us, provided transport, written numerous grants, cooked at many BBQ’s, organised Bingo Fun days and the list is endless: Natalie and Steven, Heidi and Andrew, Alanna and Ben, Renee and Peter, Sloane, Melanie and Pea. Awards Congratulations to Clay and Caitlin for achieving their Principal’s Awards.

Last Newsletter For 2018 Next week will be the last Newsletter for 2018. It will contain a list of all of the award winners from the Presentation Day Assembly.

Have a fantastic week and I look forward to seeing you at one of our final end of year activities.

Enjoy the week

Jayne Thompson Principal P&C News Canteen The canteen is now finished for the year, we will resume in the second week of school next year. Thank you to all of the volunteers for this year. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to have a canteen service at all.

Have you returned the note about helping in canteen in 2019? We still have some vacancies that will need to be filled to continue offering the same number of days next year.

Fete Winner At our Summer Fun Fair, we had Arrendell Education running a bookstall. They also ran a guessing competition for one term’s free tuition at their facility. The winner was Kylie Hinton. Congratulations Kylie and thank you very much to Arrendell Education.

Happy Holidays The P&C would like to thank everyone who has gotten involved and helped out at events this year. We’ve had a great proportion of families get involved, we’ve offered lots of fun activities for the kids throughout the year and we’ve raised some really good money for resources for the school. Now it’s time for a well-earned break, until next year when we do it all again. Hope everyone has a merry Christmas and happy holidays.
