Kettering's Global Literacy includes author/illustrator visits, aprofessionally published student literary magazine, plays, read-alouds at local bookstores and school-wide read-ins.In Kettering's Publishing House -- a library and an up-to-datetechnology lab with Internet connections -- students researchwritten work and multi-media projects in conjunction withclassroom lessons. All classrooms are equipped with at least onecomputer, color printer, television, and VCR. All classroomshave Internet connections.

Charles F. Kettering Classical Elementary School is a highlysuccessful California Distinguished School serving children ingrades kindergarten through five.Kettering is a learning communitywhere students, staff, and parentsare connected and committed tothe school.

Higher Standards
Kettering recently became aclassical elementary school to prepare students for the rigors ofnearby middle and high schools, especially Hill Classical MiddleSchool and Wilson Classical High School. All of our studentsparticipate in a challenging curriculum, including global literacyand technology. Students use the Internet to access informationfrom throughout the nation and the world.
Kettering parents sign a home-school compact, agreeing tosupport higher standards of dress, behavior, and achievement.Parents commit to a minimum of 10 hours per year in support oftheir child’s education. This participation may include meetings,working in Kettering’s Parent Center, or working as one of ourVolunteers In Public Schools (VIPS). Classroom and school-wideactivities and special events are held monthly. Kettering students
wear uniforms and adhere to a stricter dress code. The schoolprovides uniforms for families who need assistance.
Special Features
Partners in Excellence at Kettering (PEAK)offers outstanding courses taught by highly-trainedteachers in partnership with local universities,community members, and a group of seven localschools called the Wilson Family. The Ketteringteam -- including teachers, staff, administrators,parents, and community members -- all supporthigh academic and behavioral standards, guidingeach student toward success.
Kettering uses a site-baseddecision making model inwhich staff, parents, andcommunity members worktogether to make decisions forthe school.
The majority of ourcredentialed instructors areMaster Teachers. All sharetheir expertise with studentteachers, beginning teachers,and veteran teachers.
Focusing on visual andperforming arts, science and physicaleducation, we offer enrichment programs ateach grade level. The core curriculum isenhanced with the study of great artists, theexploration of speech and drama, scientific inquiry and physicalfitness. Our most senior students (grade 5) also studyphilosophy. These enrichment programs are supported byprograms such as Passports to the Arts and Meet the Masters.Additional support comes from collaborations with CSULBprofessors and graduate students.
Kettering is a member of the Wilson Family, working with sixother local schools that feed into Wilson Classical High School.These schools work together to enhance communication between
