You will learn about…–the regions of Georgia.–the habitats found in Georgia.–the organisms that live in Georgia’s habitats.

GPS Standard:

• A habitat is the area where a plant or animal naturally grows and lives.

• There are many different types of habitats found in Georgia.

Rugged mountains, ridges, and rivers are found in the Appalachian, Blue Ridge, and Ridge and Valley regions of Georgia.

with hard-packed sand are on Georgia’s Coast.

• The Barrier Islands serve as a habitat for animals along the Coastal Plains.

• They protect the beaches by blocking wind, sand, and water that may wear down the mainland.

• The Atlantic Ocean is the large body of water that borders Georgia.

• It provides a home for many organisms.

The Atlantic Ocean is the 2nd largest Ocean in the world. Table of Contents

Animals of the Atlantic Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean is full of animals of all sizes. Invertebrates, fish, mammals, and reptiles live in the ocean. Mollusks, crustaceans, and sea anemones are all invertebrates. Fish spend their entire life in the ocean.  They take oxygen in through their gills.
