    There is so muchhappening at the Trustrom a undraising pointo view, and this is our wayo inspiring others, andrecognising the antasticpeople doing so much tomake things comortableor our patients and savinglives.

    As well as advisingmembers o the public,sta, and patients onundraising or a specifcward or department,the Charity helps raise

    money in other ways. Forexample, i a departmentcomes to us with a specifcrequest, or example asignifcant amount omoney or a new piece omachinery, reurbishmentor artwork, theFundraising team will helpbuild a case, and approach

    external organisationsin the business o givinggrants to worthy causes.

    ARTlands project marks successwith celebration spectacular

    Over the past year, localschool children and patients

    have been rolling up theirsleeves and getting involvedwith an exciting new artsproject.

    The ARTlands projectstarted last Novemberthrough registered charitySpeight o the Art andinvolved 33 weeks o artisticactivity or Heartlands

    Childrens Ward and 7local schools. More thana dozen dedicated artistswere involved in everythingrom music, textiles, grafti,puppetry and dance.

    The project culminatedin a fnal exhibition andcelebration concert at theWaterhall in BirminghamMuseum and Art Gallery.

    The antastic work othe school children was

    showcased alongside thato the patients in ront oa specially invited audienceo parents, teachers andHospital sta.

    The project was run byregistered charity Speight othe Art, in partnership withthe schools and the TrustsArts department . Since

    inception, the Charity hashelped over 10,000 childrenwith arts projects. ARTlandsbenefted almost 2,000children in total, both inHospital and local schools.The participants met onthe wards and shared inworkshop experiences,enabling children romall backgrounds to

    develop communicationskills, engage with other

    children and sta, increaseconfdence and aidsuccessul recovery.

    The project was undedby the Arts Council andwould not have beenpossible without theirgenerous support. TheCharity also received adonation towards this

    project rom the William ACadbury Charitable Trust.Everyone at Heartlands

    Hospital and the ChildrensUnit wishes to thankSpeight o the Art or theirhard work and making thisdream become a reality.

    Here at the Trust, ouremployee giving scheme is

    called Pennies rom Heavenand all money raised goesstraight to the Trust Charityand directly towards patientcare.

    Solihull Hospital goes

    Strictly or patients

    Sta at Solihull Hospitalgot on their dancingshoes or a night orumba and cha-cha all inaid o patients.

    The dementia ward

    at the Hospital held aStrictly Come Dancingstyle competition atthe Dance Warehousein Solihull to raise aantastic 3,000 towardsthe ward. Over 200people attended as 6members o sta danced

    with 6 proessionals withHospital head nurse Fiona

    Burton, associate headnurse Ann Edgar and twoproessional dancers asthe judges. Prizes werehanded out by mayor oSolihull, Councillor Joe

    Tildesley.Ward 10 is a 13 bed

    ward, recently created atthe Hospital or patientswho have dementiaas well as the healthcondition or which theyare being treated in theHospital or.

    Its been a busy ewmonths on the childrensunit at Heartlands, withlots o un and undraising.

    Pupils rom YorkswoodPrimary School inKingshurst held a non-uniorm medics andpatients day, dressed intheir best ancy-dress andraised an amazing 175 orpatients. The pupils thenpaid a visit to the Unitwhere they joined childrenrom the wards to watchhilarious entertainers

    Charlie Farley and Rags.

    Birmingham City stars TomAdeyemi and Andy Shinniethen popped in to sayhello, and challenged thechildren in a plate spinningcompetition.

    Also over the summer,there were boos andhisses, cheers and shoutsas the Starlight Foundationlit up the childrensaces with a antasticpantomime perormance.

    It was then back atthe Blues or the clubshome game against

    Shefeld Wednesday, as

    38 volunteers descendedon the ground or acharity bucket collection.A massive 970.16 wasraised or the Childrenand Family Centred Careappeal. The appeal aims toraise 85,000 to improvethe acilities on the Unit.

    A big thank you toeveryone involved,brightening up the lives osome o our youngest andmost vulnerable patientsand helping to raise vitalunds.

    celebrating ater the

    donation o a piece o lie-saving equipment.Hospital undraiser Vera

    Holley donated a pulseoximeter, worth 350 to theHospital maternity unit onward 5 which will be usedto allow sta to monitorthe level o oxygen in apatients blood.

    machine is great as it allowsus to quickly and easilyassess our babies, leadingto earlier diagnosis andallows us to make quickdecisions on the needor additional treatment.We all want to say a bigthank you to Vera and hersupporters.

    Five members o staat Heartlands Hospital

    swapped uniorms orsports gear as they ran orthe Hospitals poorly babies.

    The sta, who includeour nurses and a consultanttook part in the Bupa GreatBirmingham Run and hopeto eventually raise 3,000or the neonatal unit at theHospital.

    Emma Gould, sister andrunner, said: Last Christmaswe made a pact to completethis run. None o us haveever entered an event likethis beore, but workingand training together andaching together confrmswhat a great team we

    make. Weve been traininghard since February and

    done really well as this timelast year we couldnt run amile!

    All the money we raisewill go towards purchasingnecessary equipment andalso towards non essentialitems that help to makeboth parents and their sickbabys journey at Heartlands

    that little bit easier. Itdoesnt matter how big orsmall the donation, everypenny counts.

    The Friends raise an averageo 25,000 per year, and haveraised an incredible 600,000since their inception, towardsequipment or the patientsand sta at Solihull Hospital- on everything rom wardreurbishments to high-

    tech machinery. The Friendsrecently raised 87,000 or alaparoscopic camera stackingsystem or patients undergoingsurgery, and are now currentlyraising 48,000 or theOphthalmology Department.FOSH hold events throughoutthe year, including the SolihullHospital Summer Fete, ahighlight o their undraisingcalendar, and regular bric-a-brac stalls in the Hospital mainentrance.
