The Briar Cliff Wres- tling team had a year of growth and development as the roster of all but 2 upper classmen gained both dual meet and tournament experience. While Freshmen Kyle Robison and Skylar Robision collected All-GPAC honors the team collected dual meet wins over Regina, Northwestern, and Concordia. Skylar Weber also won the team MVP award leading the team in wins and win percentage on his way to an appearance at the NAIA national tournament in Des Moines. Luis Flores a sopho- more won the teams Charger award for his outstanding leader- ship on and off the mat. Flores, a national qualifier a year ago has made gains in the classroom as well and takes pride in living the wrestling lifestyle as an example for his teammates. Dan Harvey a 184 pound sophomore won the teams Most Improved award. After a less than favorable fresh- men campaign Dan was competi- tive in his weight class, picking key wins in dual meets through- out the 2012-2013 season. Kyle Robison also rep- resented Briar Cliff University at the NAIA national tournament. Kyle went 1-2 suffering a loss to the eventual champion. Kyle had an exceptional freshmen cam- paign and shows a lot of promise as he continues to develop. Outside of dual meets and national competition the 30+ Head Coach Joe Privitere was the man in charge of the Campus Clean Up Event on Tuesday April 16th. Students, faculty, and administrators alike. Athletic teams including the BCU Wres- tling chipped in with other groups like Knights of Columbus, and academic departments to clean different areas around cam- pus. It was an opportunity for everyone to take pride in part of something that everyone shares. Coach Mullins Moving On

NAIA North Region Saturday Feb. 16th NAIA

Championship berths were on

the line. Under the new qualifi-

cation system it comes down

to the regional qualifier. Each

of the Chargers competed for

automatic bids from the top

four at their weights along

with wildcards decided by the

coaches. BCU Wrestling took

the maximum 12 wrestlers at

the 10 different weight classes.

The 11 team Field was the

deepest of any qualifier includ-

ing Briar Cliff, Concordia, Da-

kota Wesleyan, Dickinson

State, Hastings, Jamestown,

Midland, Morningside, North-

western, Waldorf and York.

At the end of the day two of

the BCU grapplers (Weber &

Robison) advanced to the na-

tional tournament in Des

Moines Ia. March 1-3.

The 2013 National Champion-

ships freatured 210 qualifiers

from 37 programs. Skylar

Weber was awarded with a

Champion of Character award

as the pair finished their sea-

sons on the national stage.

Coach Mullins has accepted a

head coaching position at

Graceland University in Lem-

oni, Ia. Coach Mullins is the

among the first class of gradu-

ate assistants to graduate from

Briar Cliff.

We as a program are proud to

produce graduates at the un-

dergrad and graduate levels.

Zachary Mullins has completed

his second year of his two year

contract here at BCU. Gradu-

ating with a Master’s Degree in

May. Coach Mullins was a 4

time national qualifier at Briar

Cliff from 2007-2011 as well as

winning a GPAC conference

championship his senior year.

After the 2012-2013 campaign end-

ed the team was allowed a break to

recuperate, set goals, and focus on

improvement moving forward.

Moving through the spring and into

the summer the team has been

lifting three days a

week. The lifting

program specifically

designed for wrestlers

by strength and condi-

tioning coach Brian

Fink focuses on the

wrestlers gaining

strength in sport spe-

cific lifts. As school lets out for

summer some of the team has

elected to stay in Sioux City to

continue their training. While oth-

ers will head back to their homes

from across the country for the

summer they will be sent with a

summer lifting and running program

to keep the wrestlers in shape,

build on the gains being made

through the spring, and help the

athletes achieve their goals.

As our team continues to grow and

we continue to have more upper-

classmen they will provide leader-

ship off the mat in the classroom

and at study hall. It is our goal to

have student athletes that come in

compete and complete their course

work in four years.

The Chargers have working in the

classroom as well. BCU Wrestling

is in the running for All-Academic

Team honors courtesy of The Na-

tional Collegiate Wrestling Associa-

tion and in conjunction with the

National Wrestling Coaches Asso-

ciation.

Coach Privitere heads the Briar Cliff Wrestling

program as he moves into his third full recruit-

ing class. Over the past few years the team has

seen exciting growth including moving into a

new practice facility, development of the

strength and conditioning programs, and addi-

tions of two Graduate Assistants to the staff.

With Division I coaching experience and elite

level wrestling facilities the program is poised

to continue its growth and development.
