That's a question that some people still ponder even when they have one. Some people don't even think about what a best friend is. What does it take to be a best friend? Sometimes you will be in a big group with a ton of friends, but a lot of people have that one friend that they’re a lot closer with than the others. This is the friend that you go everywhere with. This is the friend that you always have sleepovers with. This is the friend that you can really be yourself around. You can trust this friend with your biggest secrets. This is your best friend. If you don't have a best friend, then why don't you go meet one? Go meet new people. There might be a person in your grade/class who you know, but have never really talked to. Go talk to that person. They could be your future best friend.

SAS 4-8th Grade Activities -LCC 5th Our school has so many activities to choose from! If you’re not in one you should think about joining one. If you don't like sports or Cheerleading, then you can be a part of SOS, Band, Performance Choir, Clubs for 6-8th graders on Mass Days, Newspaper, or Ro-botics. If you do like sports there is basketball, volleyball, football, soccer (for older grades), track and cross country. If you want to join a sport, girls basketball and cross country have already started but you can choose another sport. Have fun, try your best, and be a good sport. Try to be a good sport by being kind, fair, and consider-ate of others. Thank you for trying, praying, and being kind. Have fun with your activities! Club Day on Mass Days is a new activity this year where students select a club they would like to join from the list of clubs they sub-mitted. Faculty members monitor the clubs according to their and the students’ interests. The Clubs are as follows. Thank you to all 27 faculty members who make our Club Days pos-sible. I hope all involved find a great time participating in your activ-ity choices!

Why You Should Join Band? -SM 6th

I'm in the SAS Band and I think it is amazing! Almost everyone wants to be able to play an instrument, right? However, if you need more of an incentive to join, then think about this. You get to go on a band field trip to either the aquarium or to the zoo in New Orle-ans, depending upon the weather. On one Saturday in December all the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band members will go to play laser tag and arcade games. Band is also super fun! You learn to play various songs, scales, and notes. There are two concerts, one is coming up in December, and another one will be in April. The available instruments to play are flute, clarinet, french horn, trom-bone, trumpet, and saxophone. Band is a great extracurricular ac-

Is Sitting Bad for You? -ZG 5th Some studies show that sitting for too long can be as bad as smoking. Teachers, this statement encourages you to get your students moving. Students this encourages you to move around during recess. So think again before you sit down for hours with-out moving….especially in football season. -Our Lady of the Lake Healthcare Magazine. Bulling Is Very Very Serious -SF 5th Bullying is very dangerous not just for the bully, but for others, the people who are being bullied. Bullies are insecure about who they are and that's why they bully someone else. It never has to do with the person they are bullying. They desperately want to fit in and be accepted. Their goal is to make you feel bad about yourself, so they will go out of their way to bully you. Bullying is very harmful. Don't ever bully someone . Craziest and Cutest Animals in the world! -KH 6th 1)Pink Fairy Armadillo This furry friend is the smallest armadillo species and an adult’s average length is 13 centimeters. Their coats can be yellowish-white or pink. They live in sandy plains, dunes and grasslands. This cute animal can make the perfect pet for any occasion. 2)Tufted Deer They live in forested regions at high altitudes, between 300-4600 meters above sea level. They also live in rainforests and high altitude valleys, and their coat is coarse and dark gray or brown. In my opinion it's kind of crazy to see a deer with elephant like tusks. 3)The Fossa The Fossa is an adorable predator native to Madagascar. It is also related to the mongoose, even though they are more like felines. They are at the top of the predator chain and have a red-dish-brown coat and a muzzle that resembles that of a dog. They are about four feet long and very dangerous to other animals even though they are adorable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_fairy_armadillo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tufted_deer hhttps://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/f/fossa/ttps://www.boredpanda.com/strange-animals/ Most Popular Dog Breed -KH 6th 1)Labrador Retriever -The sweet-faced, lovable Labrador Retriev-er is America’s most popular dog breed. Labs are friendly, out-going, and high-spirited companions who have more than enough affection for a big family. 2)German Shepherd - Generally considered the finest all-purpose worker, the German Shepherd Dog is a large, agile, muscular dog of noble character and high intelligence. Loyal, confident, coura-geous, and steady, this breed is truly a dog lover’s delight. 3)Golden Retriever - The Golden Retriever, an exuberant Scottish gundog of great beauty, stands among America’s most popular dog breeds. They are serious workers at hunting and field work, as guides for the blind, in search-and-rescue, and enjoy obedi-ence and other competitive events. 4)French Bulldog -The one-of-a-kind French Bulldog, with his large bat ears and even disposition, is one of the world’s most popular small-dog breeds, especially among city dwellers. The Frenchie is playful, alert, adaptable, and completely irresistible. 5)Bulldog - Kind but courageous, friendly but dignified, the Bull-dog is a thick-set, low-slung, well-muscled bruiser whose “sourmug” face is the universal symbol of courage and tenacity.

What is Peace? -AS 8th Peace is union between two groups of people. There isn't really a reason for dispute if there is peace. the definition of peace is “a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.'' Quotes about peace: “It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.” -Eleanor Roose-velt “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” -Jimi Hendrix “Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.” -Ronald Reagan "Peace brings with it so many positive emotions that it is worth aiming for in all circumstances." -Estella Elliot Defying the Stereotypes -DM 6th The dumb, blonde cheerleader. The nerdy outcast. The jerky jock. We’re all familiar with these stereotypes. You see it in movies, school, everywhere. Sometimes you even do it yourself, without even knowing it. Think about it. How many times have we subcon-sciously judged someone based on a stereotype? Everyone does it, so don’t feel guilty. However, some people purposely give an unfair title to someone else and that becomes all that person is known for. These people who stereotype others are biased, of course, to others who like themselves, consider themselves ‘normal.’ But there is no such thing as normal; we have different varieties of everything. So just forget about being normal. Be com-fortable in your own skin. Unfortunately, no matter what we do, we’ll never live in a perfect world. There will always be mean peo-ple, whether in the workplace, school, even among your own friends. It can be difficult sometimes to find true friends, but we have to try. Maybe you’re smart, or funny, or artistic, or strong. But you can be all of those combined. Labels are for canned foods, not people. And the world is much more interesting when we stand out. So don’t be afraid to tell the next person who labels you that you don’t have to fit their label. Prove them wrong, because I know it’s better to be yourself then something artificial. Once you’re confident with yourself, no one’s going to mess with you. This is very important; don’t label others. Thanks for reading! Ms. Ebony Tillman, Our SAS Cafeteria Manager -EM, AIR 5th I, Abbie Richert and Evie Martinez interviewed Ms. Ebony Tillman, our new cafeteria manager this year. We found out some interest-ing facts about her. For instance, she is a graduate from South-eastern University. She really enjoys watching football and her favorite team is LSU. Now just because she is the lunch lady, that doesn't mean that her favorite food has to be what she serves. Since we are talking about food, her favorite dessert to eat is Blueberry White Chocolate Bread Pudding. She has her own favorite foods to eat, but her favorite food to serve here at SAS is PIZZA of course. She brought us a new slushy flavor; instead of the green one we had, pina colada is the new white one. Ms. Eb-ony has a part time job at Whole Foods during the weekends. Her favorite movie is the new toy story, Toy Story 4. She is from Ba-ton Rouge, LA and enjoys eating Burritos. She has been a cook at Catholic schools for 10 years. Starting at Our Lady of Mercy, she also worked at St. George for 3 years, Most Blessed Sacrament for 3 years, and now at St. Aloysius! Lettuce now go to her family. She has 3 brothers, Dwight, Scotty, and Dewight and 2 sisters, Cuwighta and Dwayna and a son named Hays. We thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Ms Ebony! Thank you Ms. Ebony for all you do to feed SAS students, many teachers and parents!

Biking the BR Levee -NK 8th Fall is here! As it slowly starts to cool, many people are start-ing to enjoy the outdoors again. What are you going to do? Well, if you are into biking, I have a good idea, Biking the Baton Rouge Levee! So, what is the levee? A levee is a man-made hill used to protect a certain area from flooding. The levee in Baton Rouge protects Baton Rouge from the high water of the Mississippi Riv-er. Without it, most of Baton Rouge would be under water. In the past few years, the Baton Rouge government has cre-ating a trail that starts at the L'Auberge Resort and ends at the Mississippi River Park in Downtown Baton Rouge. That is over 10 miles of peddling!! If you are a good biker, you can get this done in about two hours depending on the weather and the amount of time you stop. The trail starts at the resort. The next stop is about 8.6 miles away. As you go along, you end up in the middle of no-where. The only signs of life are the barges on the river and the mooing of the cows. After that, it is just you and the river. Even-tually, you will see the road again. Right before your next stop, you will see the remains of Cottage Plantation, a plantation that burned down in the 1960’s. Then, you will reach Farr park, and that is your first stop. After your break, you will be relieved to have a paved surface. The trail is like this all the way to the end. You will go right by Tiger Stadium, and you will be able to see downtown. After a while, you will reach your next stop right before you see the Vet School. The final stretch is about 2.8 miles to the end. You will go pass the Water Campus, under the bridge, and into downtown. You can also stop by the pier and walk out into the river. You can stop at any of the museums or shops next to the trail if you like. Once you reach the “Baton Rouge” sign along the river, you know you have made it to the end. Overall, this trail is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. https://downtownbatonrouge.org/places/baton-rouge/attractions/levee-bike-path/ Hair Color Percentages -KH 5th Have you ever wondered how many other people have your hair color? The following are the percentages for the world pop-ulation. Black Hair: 84%, Brown Hair:11%, Blonde Hair:3%, Red Hair:2%, People who dye their hair: 91% People who don't dye their hair: 9% As you can see most of the world's population has black hair and also dye their hair. Next is brown hair with 11 percent; then blonde hair and finally red hair. Personally, I was quite surprised with these results. https://infogram.com/most-common-hair-color-1gjk92e414wvp16 https://www.history.com/news/whats-the-real-history-of-black-friday

Black Friday -SQ 8th November is the month for Thanksgiving. It is also the month of Black Friday. Black Friday is the name given to the famous shopping day after Thanksgiving. Why is it called ‘Black’ Fri-day? One myth is that in Philadelphia the wheels of vehicles in heavy traffic on the day after Thanksgiving Day left many black marks on the road after drivers sped away in their cars loaded with their many prized packages. Probably the truer reason is that on the financial leger sheet, losses are written in red and profits are written in black. The average in-store discount is 20 percent for the entire week. Because there are so many more shoppers, online or not, the profits soar. Google.com

Here’s a question to think about over Thanksgiving. Think about the last time you had an enjoyable conversation with someone face to face? What makes a good conversation? Look for student answers in the December Issue. Eating a Balanced Diet -Sm6th Eating a balanced diet isn’t as easy as it sounds. It’s not simply a matter of choosing carrots over chocolate. It’s all about eating a bal-ance of what you eat. Here’s some food group tips. Fruit: Kids ages 9-13 should eat 1 ½ cups (or the equivalent) per day. This means fruits (dried fruits count) or 100% fruit juice. Veggies: This means veggies or 100% vegetable juice. Kids 9-13 should eat 2- 2 ½ cups of veggies a day. Grains: Half the grains you eat should be whole grains. Whole grains contain much more nutrients than refined grains. Kids 9-13 should eat 5-6 ounces (or the equivalent) every day. Protein: Protein is more than just meat. It also includes nuts, beans, peas, eggs, poultry, and seafood. The recommended amount of pro-tein for kids ages 9-13 is 5 ounces (or the equivalent) Dairy: Dairy contains calcium which is an essential part of bone health and strength. Kids ages 9-13 should have 3 cups of dairy a day. Oils: Oils are not a food group, but they do provide essential vitamins and nutrients. Oils are found in many of the foods we eat, such as nuts, salad dressings, fish, and cooking oil. Kids should consume 5 teaspoons (or the equivalent) daily. Following these guidelines can help you stay healthier. Being healthy can even help you avoid certain illnesses. https://www.choosemyplate.gov/
