It is truly amazing to see the incredible progress being made daily by our students from our Transitional Kindergarten class all the way to grade five! During the 2011 school year our students’ hard work helped our school obtain an API score of 802. That high score grew even high-er in 2012 to 838! Although our scores, along with the entire district’s decrease this past spring we are even more determined to keep work-ing hard and pushing forward so that each of our students can achieve success. Okay everybody…”Game-on!” Let’s get to work! -Dr. Eric Todd

Book Fair Fall 2013 The Villa cam-pus hosted this year’s fall Scho-lastic Book Fair. It was a success. Thank you teachers for taking time to visit the book fair with your class. We also
want to give thanks to all the students and families who came to the book fair and supported our effort to raise money to purchase books for our li-brary. We hope to host a second book fair in the spring. A special thank you goes out to our parent cashier volunteer, Mrs. Lucila Hernandez.

This month we finished Unit 1: The Basic Elements of Art: Line, Shape, and
Color. Check out some of our projects below!
2nd Grade Mondrian/ Not Mondrian Collage
4th Grade Camouflage Color Wheel
This month we will begin Unit 2: Latin American Art. We will study indige-
nous, traditional, and contemporary art in Latin America. We will look at influ-
ences from ancient indigenous traditions (Maya, Mixtec, and Aztec) and European
Catholicism on popular and contemporary art in Mexico and Latin America. As a
part of our study of folk and popular art in Latin America, we will be making a
school-wide altar for el Dia de los Muertos.

Es realmente sorprendente ver los increíbles progresos realizados di-ariamente por nuestros estudiantes de nuestra clase de kinder transi-cional hasta quinto grado. Durante el año escolar 2011 nuestros estu-diantes trabajaron duro y ayudaron a nuestra escuela a obtener un puntaje API de 802. Ese puntaje creció aún más en 2012 a 838. Aunque nuestras puntuaciones, junto con la del distrito entero, ba-jaron esta primavera pasada estamos aún más decididos a seguir traba-jando duro y empujando hacia adelante para que cada uno de nuestros alumnos puede lograr el éxito. Feria de Libros 2013 La escuela en Villa organizo la Feria de Libros Scholas-tic 2013. Fue un exito. Gra-cias maestros por tomar el tiempo para visitor la feria de libros con su
clase. Tambien queremos dar las gracias a todos los estudiantes y familias que vinieron a la feria de libros y apoyaron nuestros esfuerzos para recaudar fontos para la compra de libros para nuestra bibli-oteca. Esperamos organizar una segunda feria de libro el la primavera. Un agradecimiento especial a nuestra madre cajera voluntaria, Lucila Hernandez.

Rueda de color camouflage, quarto grado
Este mes empezaremos Unidad 2: Arte Latinoamericana. Estudiaremos arte latino-
americana indigena, tradicional, y contemporanea. Examineramos las influencias de tradiciones indigenas antiguas (Maya, Azteca, y Mixteca) y Catolicismo Europeo en arte
popular y contemporanea en Mexico y Latinoamerica. Como parte de nuestro estudio de arte folkrorica y popular en Latinoamerica, estaremos haciendo un altar para el Dia
de los Muertos.
