CHAPTER IV
RESEARCH FINDING
A. The Description of Data
In this chapter, the writer would like to present result the
description of data collection of the research. Data of the research
was taken from observation and the students’ test result. These
observations carried out to know the students’ error of writing in
the descriptive text.
The population of this study was taken from a first grade
of SMAN 1 Baros consist of 20 students as participant. In
addition, the writer also conducted an interview to the students
consist 5 students and English teacher to get more details data.
1. The Result of Data Test
To know the result of the test of students’,
the writer made a table and a graphic of students’
error in descriptive text writing that is taken from the
data analysis.
In the table bellow is the recapitulation of
students’ error classified on the classification of error,
which are made by students’.

Based on the table data of recapitulation
students’ error on descriptive text writing above, the
writer concluded that the score of error was made by
all of students’ at first grade of SMAN 1 Baros is so
high. The classification of error are four aspects, they
are; Omission, Addition, Selection, and Ordering. The
following score of error obtained by each aspect
Omission: 36 (22,08 %), Addition: 38 (23,31 %),
Selection: 72 (44,71 %), and Ordering: 17 (10,42 %).

2. Interview
In this case, the writer conducted the
interview to the students consist of 5 students and
English teachers’. From the result of the students’
interview and English teachers’, the writer could
describe and identify the perception of students’ and
teacher on error of descriptive text writing.
a. The English Teachers’ Interview
In the English teachers’
interview, the writer submitted some of
questions which related to the research. In
the stage, the writer would explain the
result of interview which tended to
teachers’ perception of students’ on error
of descriptive text writing.
From all the questions that
purposed to the teacher, the writer
concluded that according to the teacher’s
opinion that the students’ still do not
understand fully formation of writing. In

fact they are confused in understanding on
presenting words to sentences, especially
still lack of vocabulary. So that when
studying about writing material many
error on writing of descriptive text made
by students’.
b. The Students Interview
In the students’ interview, the
writer interview of students’ consist 5
students’ at first grade to get information
about the students’ of error on descriptive
text writing. The writer will conclude
from all of the answers obtained from the
students’.
From 5 of students’, only 2
students’ who feel happy to learn English,
3 others feeling less to learn it, and most
all of the students’ still find it difficult to
understand the material about writing and
the reason was almost the same, because

they lack of the vocabulary and confused
in presenting words on writing, they
assumed that memorize the vocabulary is
so difficult, and also to select the word in
present sequence sententce, which include
formation writing.
B. The Analysis of Data
The score of the test by counting on percentage
according to the formula that processing technique the formula of
data, the writer uses is descriptive analysis technique
(percentage), with the percentage from the frequency of
information and divided with number of cases.
1. Classification of Error and Their Reconstruction
in the bellow, the writer decsribed each
students’ error in the writing text, classified them into
four aspects, namely the omission, addition, selection,
and ordering, and the correction of writing
composition students’. The writer divides each table
into three column: the first column consist of

students’ original writing, and the second column is
the reconstruction of the writing made by the writer
based on writing text rules, and the third column is
the score how many total students’ error hade made
every aspects.

compared to others, especially when compared to the

C. The Analysis of Classification of Error and Causes
After identifying each students’ error, the writer would
like to analyse the students’ error in their writing based on their
classification of error, they are:
1. Omission
Error of Omission are characterized by the
absence of an item that must appear in well-formed
utterence although any morpheme any morpheme or
word in sentence is potencial candidate for omission.
In this case, there were 36 errors (22,08 %).
2. Addition
Error of Addition is a type of error which
must not appear in a well-formed uttereance. Students
feel confused with formulas of tenses, and then
sometimes when they construct passive voice to
active voice sentence they add the word that which

must not apppear. In this case, there were 38 errors
(23,31 %).
3. Selection
Error of Selection are characterized by the
use of the wrong form of the morpheme. Students still
can not distiguish which are reguler verb and
irreguler, which are present tense and past tense, and
which are subject and object. In this case, there were
72 errors (44,71 %).
4. Ordering
Error of Ordering is incorrect placement of a
morpheme or group. Sometimes, students made
mistakes in drafting the word or a group of word that
wherease to draft the word and group of word in
English and Indonesia is different. In this case, there
were 17 errors (10,42 %).
