Well, we all made it back safely fromthe 4th of July week celebration inEagle Point Oregon. We met up withRon and Lana Peck and some of theirchapter members and a few from theOregon chapter in Shady Cove . Theweather was fantastic the whole week.We were joined by Mike and MaryanneMelby, Les and Verdi, John andDebbie, Steve and Pamela and Ron(flat tire) Green. Some of the eventsincluded river rafting on the Rouge, riding to Crater Lake and Lake of theTrees. On the 4th we had a pancakebreakfast in the basement of the VFWhall, rode our bikes in the parade andthen finished the day with a beautiful“in your face” fireworks display at thehigh school. Many thanks to Ron Peckfor the invitation and setting up thewhole project.

There are many Chapter Rally’scoming up in the next month. CA2K’ssynchronized soaker, CA2N’s Rally atthe Barn and don’t forget the DistrictRally in Bakersfield. Check the websitefor all the details to see if any of these

are of interest to you.

We are currently working on the idea ofmatching t-shirts so we can be identified asCA2S “Sharks”. If you have any ideas onthis subject feel free to contact eithermyself or Verdi. Also, if you could, keepan eye out for a place to have our ParkingLot Practices. A clean lot without lightposts and trees would be real nice. If yousee anything in your travels, get a note orphone call to Ron Green.

A big thank-you goes out to Kathy Moudryfor making something positive out of whatsome consider a “negative”…….THEWING NUT. She has had it 3 times so farthis year (and the year isn’t over yet), sofor the July/August award, she has offeredto match, dollar for dollar, any calls thatcome her way inquiring if she has the nutin her possession. So, please call her in thetime remaining and lets raise some moneyfor the “Ride For Kids” and also theDiabetes Foundation.

Well, that’s about all we have this month. Please check the ride calendar and comeride with us when you can. Also, check outthe website.

Be safe and ride often

The grandpoohBOB & I.Wing

Chapter WassupBy Michael Melby, CA-2S ACD

Ride ReportsChapter MeetingSaturday, July 18

This meeting was larger and more boisterous thanusual with many visitors from Chapter 2N in Sonora, whoreminded us that their color is GOLD, not yellow; and fromChapter C in Sacramento, with information about the OctoberHarvest Run, and from Chapter 2K in Fairfield. Also most oftraveling chapter members have returned from Oregon andthe Oklahoma Wing Ding.

We participated in some major, far-flung events thismonth. There was a well-attended ride in the Eagle Point,Oregon, 4th of July parade. There was Wing Ding in Tulsa,Oklahoma. Unfortunately, the Pass-to-Pass Ride wascancelled because of heat and a lack of interest. As areplacement, we had a very nice ride to lunch in Monterey, led by Jim and Sherry. Speaking of the Carr’s, they alsohosted a workshop.

August is crashing down upon us, signaling the endof summer. It also means the Blue Butt is near! There willbe a group departing on Friday, August 14, for the ride toReno and Saturday’s Blue Butt ride. A Sunday return isplanned. Chapter 2K is hosting its annual SynchronizedSoaking on Saturday, August 1. Those attending will departearly Saturday morning armed with every squirt gun they canmuster.

Because the Blue Butt ride occurs on the Saturday ofour regularly scheduled chapter meeting, the August meetingwill be moved up one week to August 8.

Ron Green suffered the latest in his unbroken stringof flat tires on his trip to Oregon. He recommends that at ourworkshops we practice plugging a tire, and that we don’tleave home without a cell phone, duct tape, and the GWRRAGold Book.

There were three nominations for the coveted WingNut: John Watt for confusing everyone with conflicting dateson the Peninsula Banjo Band outing, Ron Green for ruiningyet another perfectly good Gold Wing tire, and Kathy Moudry(watch as Lennie throws her under the bus) for trying to see ifa glove thrown from a moving motorcycle would bounce.Kathy was awarded the Wing Nut. Kathy has offered todonate, in addition to the Ride for Kids, to the American

Diabetes Association. Our Fearless Leader Bob tried to set up a 50/25/25,

but another Bob from one of those other lesser chapterswalked off with both halves of the pot.

After the meeting Ron led a ride to Pescadero.

Planning MeetingTuesday, July 28

Because Our Fearless Leader Bob couldn’t handleseeing our smiling faces twice in one week, the AugustPlanning Meeting was moved up to the last Tuesday in July.Despite the date change, this meeting was well attended. Asbroadcast at the July Chapter Meeting, the August ChapterMeeting will be held the morning of August 8 to avoid aconflict with the Blue Butt ride on August 14-16. In thepast, the Blue Butt ride involved a Friday ride to Reno, theBlue Butt ride on Saturday, and a return ride on Sunday.

This Saturday, August 1, is the SynchronizedSoaking event with Chapter 2K. Departure was suggestedfor 7:30 am from the Omega Restaurant, headed for RanchoSeco Park in Herald. This will be a long, hot, wet day.

After all the excitement of the Blue Butt, there is alunch ride planned for Saturday, August 22. The destinationis Brad’s Restaurant in Pismo Beach. This will be a greatride south on either 1 through Big Sur or 101, which is moreinland.

August deadlines to note are August 10 for DistrictRally pre-registration, and August 31 for Chapter 2N Partyat the Barn pre-registration.

The next 2S Planning Meeting is scheduled forTuesday, September 1, at Holder’s. The September ChapterMeeting is being moved up because it conflicts with theChapter 2N Party at the Barn; the chapter meeting will beSaturday, September 12.

Les is organizing Chapter 2S participation in theAmerican Diabetes Association StepOut walk. This eventwill be held near the end of September in San Jose. He islooking for 4 or 5 bikes to support the walkers, peoplewilling to help with event registration, and people willing todrive support vehicles. Contact Les now if you can helpwith this event.

Bob reminded us that we’re still looking for a placeto hold our end-of-season BBQ. We need a place we can setup a BBQ and hang out until after dark.

Let’s see, talk about Wing Ding or District Rally? Iknow that you really want to hear about both so hereyou go.The Roaring 20’s District Rally is growing andshaping up really well. We have beautiful trophies forthe events and we have posted the categories for theskills games and bike show on the website. We havean awesome T-shirt design again for this year; check itout at the District website also along with the tentativerally schedule. We are putting a call out to all theseminar presenters to attend a class just for you onSaturday to expand and update your training.Treasurers will have a forum with our DistrictTreasurer with the new categories for expenses and theannual financial requirements. On Sunday morningwe’ll be having the CD/ACD forum and the CE/ACEforum with the District representatives. This year we are also offering the ARC and TRCclasses. There is a separate registration form for theseclasses as well as the First Aid/CPR classes. We willalso be offering Rider Education seminars andLeadership Training seminars. Following the skillsgames on Sunday will be the bike games. The bikegames are done 1 up and 2 up and with a trailer. Theyare fun skill games and are open to all to participate. We are hoping that many of you will show up incostume. The Roarin’ 20’s was a fun time for clothes!Don’t forget about the chapter films on the Roaring20’s that are due by August 20th. And don’t forgetthose table decorations. There is no requirement thisyear except they should follow the Roarin’ 20’s themeAs last year, we’ll have all the vendors inside with acouple of exceptions. WingStuff will be our majorvendor and we appreciate their support.Door prizes, vendor sponsored prizes (including a setof tires from JBJ) will be there. As well as tickets forthe $1000.00 cash grand prize.Don’t forget to get your room reservations made at the

DoubleTree and remember for each room night you bookyou’ll get a bonus of $10 of daily 50/25/25 tickets, just ourway of saying thank you for staying at the host hotel.Hopefully you all have heard that we negotiated the ratedown to $87/night to make it more affordable. So we’ll see you soon and we can’t wait, the rally will beone of a kind!

Our trip to Wing Ding started, no surprise here, with a hotfirst day. California can’t travel east without a hot daythrough the desert and ours was 109! Next day we took inthe Grand Canyon and it was probably the clearest we haveever seen. We stayed so long we missed 4 Corners as wemade our way to Cortez, CO. We took the next day to seeMesa Verde National Park and it was incredible as usual. Our National Parks never get old! We were then hit with anasty storm. We got pelted with wind and rain as wecarefully made our way through and arrived very wet andtired at the hotel. Next day took us through Dodge City,KS and down to Tulsa, OK arriving just in time to grab ourpackets and head out to the opening night party. The opening night party included a BBQ dinner and theplay “Oklahoma”, a Rogers and Hammersted musical. Ihad done this musical when I was a junior in High Schoolbut we didn’t have real horses or have real horses drawingthat “surrey with the fringe on top”. Wing Ding’sattendance was a little over 9000 and there was a goodvariety of vendors. The venue was great as everything wasright there. The entertainment was great and California’sown Lou Caspary from CA1F did a great job at the talentshow. On a cool personal note, I was awarded with myMasters Instructors patch from Leadership Training. We left Tulsa with Nick Hoppner’s group from Coloradoheading for Dodge City. We stayed the next day in Dodgeto see the sights and then it was time to get out of Dodge! Our route home took us to 4 Corners, Wupatki NationalMonument, a gorgeous ride through Oak Creek Canyoninto Sedona and then a very hot day to arrive home. We areso blessed to live in this country and ride such unbelievablemotorcycles that have opened our lives up to so manyfantastic friends!

So that’s it for now…..well almost. We have a newaddition to the Alkire family and we are both so excited. Now don’t let JR kid you, it does not belong to him, IT’SMY TRIKE!!! Yes, we are the proud owners of a new2001 Illusion Red California SideCar Trike, thank you JBJ!JR has been giving me refresher training and I will betaking my TRC class with Hank Herrera very soon. So I’mnot out terrorizing the roads yet, but just you wait, I’ll beriding to see you soon. So be good, be safe and we’ll seeyou soon!
