8.7 Exceptions to the Octet Rule•The Octet rule is simple & useful for most basic bonding concepts. However, in some situations, it does have some limitations:

In the bonding of ionic compounds of involving some transition metals.1. EX: Fe 2+ [Ar] 3d6 Fe 3+ [Ar] 3d5.

Some covalent bonding doesn’t follow the octet rule either. These exceptions to the octet rule are of three main types:
