Chapter 7 – Heart of Unity Unity is joining together with your brothers and sisters around the world through loving one another and serving God together. Unity is not uniformity, meaning it does not imply that we are all the same, in fact unity requires diversity in order to be true unity. We all come from different walks and lenses of life; race, age, gender, class and distinctions, but we come together in spirit and truth to create one body in Christ Jesus. Since the basis of unity is love, let’s take an overview look at 1 Corinthians 13: Love is: Patient, Kind, Truth-seeking, believing, hopeful, faith-filled and steady with endurance. Love is not: Jealous, boastful, arrogant, selfish, self-seeking, rude, grudge holding, tolerant of unrighteousness, touchy or easily provoked. Based off of this listed overview of love, what are some areas you know you need to allow God to refine you in? In what ways have some of these areas of lack effected your relationships and unity with family, friends, or God? What areas of life has God been calling you to be a bridge of unity to your community? (Age, race, gender, class, distinction etc.)
