7.2 Findings of personal observation:

To assess the contribution of MIDC in the development of Small and Medium

Enterprises (SME) in Thane Belapur Industrial Belt in Navi Mumbai physical

observation were conducted. The criteria considered for evaluation were land

acquisition and allotment by MIDC, infrastructure, fire prevention measures, safety

and security, waste management, consultancy and incentives.

Personal observation-SMEs response to the contribution of MIDC

It was observed that most of the MIDC areas indicate the poor infrastructure except

Nerul, Pawne. Only Rabale MIDC area has the highest satisfaction for power and

water infrastructure. Many Engineering unites needs more power supply as compared

to other SME unites in Navi Mumbai. As far as water infrastructure and supply is

considered, Chemical unites still faces problem of short of water in Navi Mumbai

MIDC area.

It was also observed that, at many MIDC areas proper roads for transportation are not

in well conditions. Quality of the roads is very imperfect for the development of SME

in Thane Belapur Industrial Belt in Navi Mumbai. Especially in Rabale, Pawne and

Mahape MIDC area.

As regards to, safety and security, many MIDC area lakhk in adequate safety and

security mechanism. In Pawne MIDC area highest number of theft and robbery are

taken plakhe.

As per the observation, many chemical SME unites are not satisfied with Common

Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) which was specially designed for treatment to

industrial waste. Highest number of unsatisfied chemical unites are from Turbhe

MIDC area.in many MIDC area disposal of waste is not as per the standard. Drainage

facilities in many areas are insufficient as per the requirement of the SME unites.

It was observed that, consultancy for strengthening the SME was not enough and

marketing research practices are not upto the remark. Even in case of incentives many

unites are not satisfied.

7.3 Findings of personal interview of MIDC Officials

As a part of the study to root out the problems of SMEs and to find out the efforts

taken by MIDC to deploy developmental practices for SMEs.The Researcher

approached to the MIDC officials to conduct interviews. Disappointingly the MIDC

officials refused to provide the information officially, but informally the officials

provided the Information and difficulties they face in providing efficient services to

the SME.

In order to ensure good quality service to SME, MIDC seeks the co-operation

and support from SME by proper use of facilities and services.

7.4 Introduction of Testing of Hypothesis

As per the set objectives and review of literature following hypothesis were designed

by researcher for testing and analyzing. Hypothesis testing begins with an assumption,

called a Hypothesis that we make about population parameter. According to

Prof.Morris Hamburg, “A Hypothesis in statistics is simply a quantitative statement

about a population.” Hypotheses were tested with the help of statistical techniques

like T-test, Chi-square test, ANOVA, Critical Difference (CD).

Following were Null Hypothesis was tested for level of significance of difference.

7.5 Null Hypothesis with reference to employability

1. Null Hypothesis (Ho): There is no significant increase in employability in

Navi-Mumbai MIDC over a period of interval (2000-2013).

Alternate Hypothesis11.There is significant increase in employability in Navi-

Mumbai MIDC over a period of interval (2000-2013).

To study above hypothesis information about number of employees in the year 2000

and in 2013 is collected. Following table indicate comparative information only of

those firms which were established before 2000.

Above table indicate that T-calculated value (8.576) is greater than T-table value

(1.96) at 5% level of significance. Therefore T-test is rejected. Hence null hypothesis

is rejected and alternate hypothesis is accepted. Conclusion is there is significant

increase in employability from year 2000 to year 2014.

N2. There is no association between type of SME and year of existence with

respect to year 2000.

For testing above null hypothesis chi square test is applied.

253

Above results indicate that chi-square calculated value (0.166) is less than chi-square

table value (3.84). Therefore test is accepted. Hence null hypothesis is accepted.

Conclusion is There is no association between type of SME and year of existence with

respect to year 2000.

This indicate that proportion of small and medium SME before and after 2000 are in

same proportion.

7.6 Null Hypothesis with reference to land acquisition and allotment

The above data is presented in multiple bar diagram as follows :

Fig No.7.3

Level of satisfaction of Land acquisition and allotment for SME and type of

organization of the respondents

To test the above hypothesis Chi-square test is applied and the result of the test is

Chi-square: 13.771

Table value: 9.49

Degree of freedom: 04

Result of the test: Test is rejected

Calculated value 13.771 is more than table value (9.49), therefore test is rejected and

null hypothesis is rejected and alternate hypothesis is accepted that is: There is

association between level of satisfaction of land acquisition and allotment for

SME and type of organisation of the respondent.Which indicate that respondents

from small and medium enterprises have uniform satisfaction about land acquisition

and allotment.

As the above Null Hypothesis got rejected the study was set to have ANOVA table

and to have f-test in order to ascertain the level of significance of variance
