Chapter 4
Conclusion and Recommendation
This chapter presents the conclusion comprising activities that I did during the
internship and recommendation to the institution,
Conclusion
Based on the account presented in the previous chapter, there are some points as
the conclusion.
1. During the internship I had two activities, the main activity and secondary
activities. The main activity that I had to do during the internship was translating
English story books for children into Bahasa Indonesia. During translating
activity there were 7 steps that I did, namely: choosing the books, translating the
selected books, checking and editing the translations, printing the translations,
cutting the translations, sticking the translations, and labeling. The secondary
activities that I did were joining Ganesa English Speaking (GES), Story Telling
activity and Ganesa nulis Community (GnC). I got many benefits when I joined
this activity such as improving reading skill in the Story Telling activity,
improving speaking skill in the Ganesa English Speaking activity, getting
knowledge about American culture told by the native speaker.
2. I found some difficulties related to the activities that I did during the internship.
The problems and strategies to solve the problems are as follows:
a. Translating English story books for children into Bahasa Indonesia
I found some problems in translating English story books for children into
Bahasa Indonesia.
Choosing the suitable English story books that would be translated
To overcome the problem, I opened the book one by one patiently. I
made sure the books that I wanted to translate have empty space to stick my
translation.
Producing the bilingual English – Indonesia Story Books
While translating, I got several problems:
Finding suitable vocabularies for children
I got problem in understanding some difficult words that I found in
the books. I felt difficult to find the suitable vocabularies for the children.
I had to choose the familiar words to make them easy to understand what
the books tell about so that they can easily understand the moral value of
the story of the books.
Finding equivalence of onomatopoeia
I got a problem when I found the texts that express a sound of
something because sometimes the sound of something in source language
culture (English) is different with sound in the target language culture
(Bahasa Indonesia). To solve the problem, I adjusted sounds of things in
the source language with sounds of things in the target language (Bahasa
Indonesia) by using establish equivalence technique of translation.
Connecting to Wi-Fi
Another problem that I faced was bad Wi-Fi connection.
Sometimes, the head of Ganesa library changed the password in order to
anticipate people who use the Wi-Fi for something useless. Unfortunately,
he did not tell the new password to the interns. Therefore, I felt difficult
to get Wi-Fi connection. To overcome the problem, I used my hand
phone to connect to the Internet.
Process of Checking and Editing
When I checked and edited all of my translations on text boxes,
sometimes the translations and text boxes disappeared so I had to make new
text boxes again and retype my translations on text boxes. To solve the
problem I was careful when I typed my translations and I saved the
translations many times after typing them.
Process of Printing
Sometimes, the printer that I used to print my translations was error. It
could not print my translations on the paper. So, I told the problem to my
supervisor. Then he called the technician to repair the printer.
Process of Cutting
I had to cut the paper by following the line of text boxes. When I cut
the paper in an incorrect way, I had to print again and I cut them carefully.
Process of Sticking
I could not stick the translations because the size of the boxes does not
fit the empty space of the books, so that I had to make the size of boxes
suitable by printing new text boxes again.
Process of Labeling
I could not stick the label sign on the books that have small size. To
overcome that problem I should stick my name and the university where I
am from on the cover of a book to give a sign that the book has been
translated.
b. Ganesa English Speaking (GES)
The problem that I faced during joining the Ganesa English Speaking (GES)
activity was choosing the interesting topic to discuss. Therefore, to overcome
the problem, I found out an issue drawing public’s attention that I chose to be
the topic of Ganesa English Speaking (GES) activity.
c. Story Telling
The problem that I faced in the story telling was making the children pay
attention to me when I told the story. To solve that problem, I chose interesting
story books which have many pictures and told the story as interesting as
possible.
Recommendation
The recommendations are addressed to two parties, Ganesa Library and
Students of English Diploma Program, some recommendations are as follows:
1. For Ganesa Library
It is expected that the head of Ganesa library provides exclusive room to
students conducting an internship in order to make them convenient and more
focused when doing their job. Furthermore, it is hoped that the head of Ganesa
Library checks the interns’ translation in the mid of the internship program and
gives feedback.
2. For Students of English Diploma Program
It is expected that the English Diploma students who want to do internship
program in Ganesa library learn translating children’s book before they do the
internship program in order to make their translation accurate, readable, and
acceptable for children.
