• Coalescence is the combining of many small droplets into one larger drop.
• Supercooling is the cooling of water to below its freezing point without a change in state. Then the water encounters freezing nuclei and forms ice crystals.

• Rain Gauge
4. Describe how the amount of snowfall can be measured.
• Snow depth is determined using a measuring stick.
• Water content can be determined by melting a certain volume of snow.

5. Explain how Doppler radar can be used to measure the intensity of precipitation.
• Doppler radar works by bouncing radio waves off of snow or rain. Measuring the return waves tells us about the intensity of the rain or snow.

6. Describe how precipitation can be induced or increased artificially.
• Precipitation can be stimulated artificially be adding condensation nuclei in the form of dry ice or chemical crystals into a cloud.
