    Vocabulary

Dear Family,Today my class started the Perimeter and Area chapter. I will be exploring the perimeter and area of rectangles and composite figures. I will also be learning how to draw diagrams to solve problems. Here are my vocabulary words that I will be using during my lessons.

composite figure: A figure made up of two or more figures.

area: the number of square units needed to cover a figure without overlapping

    formula: an equation that shows the relationship between numerical values.area (A) of a rectangle = length (l) width (w)A = I w

Travel TalkHave students discuss perimeter and area when you travel to different places. Ask: How would you find the perimeter of the soccer field? How many square inches would it take to cover the area of the top of the restaurant table?

At Home ActivityMaterial: inch ruler and yardstick or measuring tape

Measure the perimeter of your bedroom. Draw pictures of the room with the

lengths of the walls labeled. Measure items within the room, and

draw them onto your picture. Label the measurements.

Repeat the activity with other rooms.

Estimada familia:Hoy comenzamos en clase el captulo Permetro y rea. Aprender a explorar el permetro y el rea de rectngulos y figuras compuestas. Tambin aprender cmo dibujar diagramas para resolver problemas. Estas son las palabras de vocabulario que usar durante mis lecciones.

    Cariosamente,

P.D.: En la parte de atrs de esta carta hay sugerencias prcticas que podemos realizar juntos en el carro, as como una actividad y libros para leer en casa.
