ESSAY
1. Define each of the following: document tab, Document toolbar, and Document window.
ANS:
The document tab displays the Web page name, which is Untitled-1 for the first Web page you create
in a Dreamweaver session. The Document toolbar contains buttons that provide different views of the
Document window (e.g., Code, Split, and Design), and some common operations, such as
Preview/Debug in Browser, Refresh Design View, View Options, Visual Aids, and Check Browser
Compatibility. The Document window displays the current document as you create and edit it.

2. Briefly describe at least seven different status bar options.
ANS:
• Tag selector: Click any tag in the hierarchy to select that tag and all its contents.
• Select tool: Use the Select tool to return to default editing after using the Zoom or Hand tool.
• Hand tool: To pan a page after zooming, use the Hand tool to drag the page.
• Zoom tool: Available in Design view or Split view, you can use the Zoom tool to check the pixel
accuracy of graphics or to better view the page.
• Set magnification: Use the Set magnification context menu to change the view from 6% to 6400%;
default is 100%.
• Mobile size: Set the Document window to mobile size values, such as for smartphones.
• Tablet size: Set the Document window to tablet size values.
• Desktop size: Set the Document window to desktop size values.
• Window size: Set the Window size value, which includes the window’s current dimensions (in
pixels). Click this value to display the Window size pop-up menu.
• Download size and download time: Refer to this area for the size and estimated download time of
the current page. Dreamweaver CS6 calculates the size based on the entire contents of the page,
including all linked objects such as images and plug-ins.
• Unicode (UTF-8): Refer to this area for the type of text encoding. Unicode is an industry standard
that allows computers to consistently represent and manipulate text expressed in most of the world’s
writing systems.

3. Explain what CSS3 is and how it is used. Include in your answer an explanation of the two ways in
which Web pages can be designed.
ANS:
CSS3 is the new standard for Web site presentation. Web pages can be designed in two ways: First, a
Web page can contain layout and content information combined in a single HTML file. This option is
not recommended because it is difficult to update and maintain such a Web page on larger sites. The
second option is the one in which a Web page can separate content from the layout in two separate
files. The content information is coded in the HTML file, but the HTML file does not contain
information about how that information is displayed. The appearance, or layout, is stored in a separate
file called a CSS file.
A CSS file is a simple text file containing style rules that control the appearance of a Web page. Using
CSS styles, you can control font size, font color, background, and many other attributes of a Web
page, thus reducing a page’s file size. In a large Web site that does not use CSS styles, making a
formatting revision such as changing the font is very time consuming because each page must be
changed individually to use the new font. By using CSS, you can change the font in one line of a CSS
file and have the font automatically update throughout the entire site.
