Three GDL options are available to you

depending on your age.

Early Bird Road

16 years of age

Young Adult Road

17 years of age

Adult Road

21 years of age

Basic requirements you must meet in order to receive your license

• You must pass the written test with at least an 80% before you get behind the wheel.

• You must have an eyesight screening and complete a health questionnaire.

• You must complete and pass the road test that is given at motor vehicle by

a NJ Motor vehicle Employee.

• License/permit, registration and insurance card.

• NJ licensed driver with you that has had at least 3 years of driving experience and holds a valid NJ license.

• You must supply a car…personal car or a car from a driving school.

Reasons for failing the road test!

Improper paper work Parallel parking

Brake not accessible to the instructor Car is unsafe for test

Car is gross and trashy inside A licensed driver did not come with you to the

testing site If you fail the road test you must wait 2 weeks

before you retake the test.

Random Important DMV Information

• Name change? 2 weeks to contact DMV• Address change? 1 week to contact DMV• Move into NJ? 60 days to apply for new license **sooner if your current licenses expires before the 60 days

• Driving? Must have license/permit, registration and insurance card with you

• Live in NJ? Must have an NJ license and not a license from another state

Commercial Driver License (CDL)

• You must apply for a CDL if you are driving commercial vehicles…

• 18 wheelers, company delivery vehicles.• Taxi, fire fighters, personal recreational

vehicles (RV’s), first aid and rescue vehicle drivers do not need a CDL.

6 Points of Identification?• You must prove who you really are!! • When you apply for a permit/license, you must

provide 6 points of ID that requires you to get some paperwork in order.

• Refer to pages 13-15 of your manual and complete the worksheet that will help you organize your 6 points of ID.

Lose Your Permit/License??

• Go to DMV and get a new one.• Pay the required fee.• Contact the police so someone does not

use your license…• Under 17?? A licensed driving instructor

must go with you to DMV to apply for a duplicate permit/license.

License Not Renewed??• Driver must take the written and

road test again to reapply for a license that was not renewed for 3

years!!

• This law state that if you are capable of proving you can drive a vehicle, regardless of a disability, you cannot be discriminated against!!

Uniform Anatomical Gift Act

Organ Donation

1. You must identify if you want to be an organ donor when you apply for your license.

2. You must be 18 years of age or older to make this decision on your own.

3. If you are under 18 years of age, you must have parent or guardian consent to be an organ donor.

4. One organ donor can save or enhance the lives of at least 50 people!
