The interest into political science and history stems from my
experiences in Mock Trial and my trip to Europe. Our school
reintroduced Mock Trial after a six year hiatus my senior year and
I decided give it an attempt. This decision did not disappoint. I
displayed my innocence as a student accused of selling drugs to a
minor through my choice of words in reply to the lawyer accusing
me. I played with my wordings with other schools witnesses in my
pursuit of acquiring information to help my case. The way the
United States justice system works fascinated me and really sparked
my interest into entering that field. During the summer of 2006, I
was fortunate to be part of the People to People student ambassador
program. We traveled to England and France and had a taste of a
unique European culture that I have never experienced. My
experiences have taught me that the world has turned into a
complex, dynamic and ever-changing influx of ideas and markets. The
downturn of an economy, such as that of Greece, will impact not
only its surrounding countries, but the entire European Union as
well. I am infatuated by the worlds interconnectedness.
There are thousands of universities and colleges. Please share
with us why you are choosing to apply to Chapman. (200 words or
fewer)When driving through The Circle of Orange to try new
delicacies or meet friend, I have always passed Chapman University
and wondered what the school embodied. Having the football banquet
at the Argyros Forum showed me a sample of the belief culture
surrounding the school. When Coach Owens spoke during the banquet,
he spoke about the sense of family encompassing the school. While
every student has their own values, the characters of each all
conjure a sense of respect. Chapman has managed to combine
integrity and dignity with a high academic curriculum. As a person
who values morals, the knowledge that Chapman encourages activities
such as community service opportunities plays dearly to the impact
I want to make to the world. Drawing from your past experiences and
considering your future goals, how do you expect to contribute to
the Chapman community? (200 words or fewer) As a second-generation
Taiwanese American, I have experienced trying to break the language
barrier and mixing in Chinese and American culture with my life.
Through trial and error, I obtained a balance of both worlds. This
fusion of two unique identities has helped me be the catalyst for
the interactions of new people. Being able to identify and help
assimilate new foreign students has also translated into other
areas as well. I have friends from nearly every part of the
socioeconomic scale, ranging from conservatives to liberals, jocks
to geeks and African American to Latinos. Through my understanding
of different philosophies and international beliefs, I can see
myself bridging the plethora of diverse students in Chapman and
take part in research studies such as the IRES. Chapman prides
itself as a magnet for all nations. Having experienced the variety
of peoples in the world and personally being multi-cultured, I
believe I can tie together the unique ethnicities and have a
lasting influence on the community.
