“CORPUS CHRISTI” 2015 Dear Brother Knights and Ladies Auxiliary:

It’s that time of the year when we celebrate the Solemnity of “Corpus Christi” (The Body and Blood of Christ), and First Communions… which remind us of remaining united to Christ the Lord, like branches to the vine, in order to bear good and abundant fruit. That’s the only way we will be fruitful and our fruit will remain: stay united to the Lord Jesus, and he’ll do the rest.

Julia was born with a serious deficiency. For her parents it was very rough, especially at the beginning. “Nobody is prepared for a surprise like this,” was commenting on one occasion her father, once he was more accepting of the condition of the little one, so tiny and with so many problems from the start, and yet, a treasure in God’s eyes. Little by little her brothers and sisters learned how to live with Julia in their midst. It was not easy. They had to do everything for her, and every time she had a crisis she would make everybody run. Each day they were learning something new from Julia. Without being aware of it, that tiny little girl, so fragile, defenseless with so many impediments, she ended up becoming the center of attention of the whole family. When Julia reached the age of receiving First Communion, her Mom and Dad went to see the parish priest, who had already baptized her, and asked him: “We would like our daughter to make her First Communion. She is of age and we taught her what we could about love and God’s closeness to her. She can’t talk, she doesn’t know her prayers, however, we

believe she should share in this weekly precious gift from God, like any of us.” The priest wasn’t sure what to do. After much thinking he said that it may be better not. To be fair to the other kids who spent one whole year to prepare themselves. Julia wouldn’t be able to understand what she will be receiving. The mother looked at Father straight in the eyes and said: “Don’t tell me, Father, that you understand what you receive each day in the Eucharist?” The priest immediately asked to be forgiven for pretending to be the owner of one of the gifts that God left to all and which, even though we may receive it frequently, we may never fully understand it. A short time later Julia received the Body and the Blood of Christ together with the rest of the kids. It is by nourishing ourselves often and worthily on Christ, essential food for us, his disciples, that we remain in him and he in us as he promised. This way we will allow him to be the one to bring about unity, charity, and fraternity among us, in our world, who so much longs for his healing presence and love.

A founding notion: protecting the breadwinner’s income

While jobs may be safer in 2015, accidents, injuries, and illnesses that can impact your ability to work still happen. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study revealed that more than 95 percent of the long-term disability claims on file were not work related?

The Knights have always sought to protect members’ families from the “loss” of a breadwinner. I am sure you know all about Father McGivney’s vision for our insurance program. But you may not know that Father McGivney also wanted to find a way to help members who couldn’t work because of an illness. After all, the “loss” of the breadwinner does not have to mean that person’s death; it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner’s income.

Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income suddenly stopped? Could a dual-income family manage on one income stream? What about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children? What if his income halted due to an accident or illness?

I’ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren’t sure what this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. Having this protection counts for something, certainly, but it isn’t “yours”; it’s provided by the company for which you work at their discretion. It could be eliminated tomorrow.

That’s where a personally-owned disability income insurance product, like Income Armor, comes into play. It can offer valuable income replacement in the event of an injury or illness. If you have a job, you must know about this coverage. �Fraternally,

A founding notion: protecting the breadwinner’s income

While jobs may be safer in 2015, accidents, injuries, and illnesses that can impact your ability to work still happen. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study revealed that more than 95 percent of the long-term disability claims on file were not work related?

The Knights have always sought to protect members’ families from the “loss” of a breadwinner. I am sure you know all about Father McGivney’s vision for our insurance program. But you may not know that Father McGivney also wanted to find a way to help members who couldn’t work because of an illness. After all, the “loss” of the breadwinner does not have to mean that person’s death; it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner’s income.

Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income suddenly stopped? Could a dual-income family manage on one income stream? What about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children? What if his income halted due to an accident or illness?

I’ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren’t sure what this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. Having this protection counts for something, certainly, but it isn’t “yours”; it’s provided by the company for which you work at their discretion. It could be eliminated tomorrow.
