NAMI’S OUTREACH TO FAITH COMMUNITIES
Guided by the dedicated volunteer leaders who comprise the NAMI Faithnet Advisory Group, NAMI Faith-Net is an online grassroots network. It is not a religious network but rather an outreach to all religious organiza-tions and faith communities that re-spects all religious beliefs. The initia-tive serves two primary functions, to promote caring congregations and to embrace those affected by mental illness for whom faith is a component of their recovery experience. Many NAMI Affiliates recognized that through faith community outreach, they are effectively connecting to in-dividuals and families in need and offering a resource of value. To learn more about NAMI FaithNet, visit www. nami.org/faithnet
NAMI Advocate, Summer 2014
This spring, an historic, first-time gathering of leaders met for an all-day “Gathering on Mental Health and the Church” to discuss the im-portance of churches working togeth-er to address critical mental health issues.
Their lives forever changed by their son Matthew Warren’s death by sui-cide, Rick and Kay Warren, founders of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., reached out to NAMI Orange County and to the Most Reverned Kevin Vann, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, to make a difference as the first anniversary of their son’s death approached.
