PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 321 - 14 Jul 2001 By 30 September this year, Scotland’s 43 health boards will number just 15 in a move to rebuild the country’s National Health Service (NHS), reports the Pharmaceutical Journal. Each NHS area in Scotland will be served by one decision-making body as a step towards a truly national health service, says the country’s Health Minister Susan Deacon. With the new health boards comes the integration of decision- making at a local level, clarification of responsibility, better planning and greater accountability, she says. The move is about more than just streamlining bureaucracy, she adds. Scots to cut NHS administration.
