FOURTH COLLEGE ANNUAL REPORT 2012-‘13

Chandy College of Engineering, Mullakadu, Thoothukudi is chiseled by Pitchandi

Poornamalaiammal Educational and Charitable Trust. The trust, with the resolution of imparting

education befitting the contemporary technical calling, pays special attention to impart technical

education to the socially, educationally and economically backward communities. The college

was established in ---september--------2009 with the approval of Tamilnadu Government and

All India Council for Technical Education and is affiliated to Anna University of Technology,

Tirunelveli. The College was approved to conduct the following five courses:

B.E. Civil Engineering

B.E. Computer Science and Engineering

B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering

B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering

B.E. Mechanical Engineering

The sanctioned intake for each of the above course is 60. Admissions to the courses are

made in accordance with the norms laid down by the Government of Tamilnadu, Anna

University of Technology Tirunelveli and AICTE.

DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES AND SCIENCES

ADMISSION:

27 students for Mechanical,12 studetns for EEE,05 students for ECE,03 students for

CSE and totally 47 students were admitted during 2009-2010.

60 students for Mechanical, 54 students for EEE, 47 students for ECE, 35 students for

CSE, 03 students for Civil and totally 199 students were admitted during 2010-2011.

An extracurricular activities day was organized by Cumulative Association of Humanities

Thoothukudi.

Mrs.S. Gowri and Mrs. S.Geetha joined in this academic year 2012-‟13.

DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

Second floor comprising of seminar hall, faculty Room, Final Year class room was

installed.

Environment Engineering Lab was opened Covering 106.17sqm.

New Equipments like BOD Incubator, COD Appartus, Jartest Appartus,

Spectrophotometer were purchased at Modern Scientific Equpiments.

For the Second year we have 51 students out of which 30 are regular 21 lateral entry.

For the third year we have 22 students 2 are regular and 20 from lateral entry.

Symposium was organished on 8th

march 2013 on the topic “Recent trends in civil

engineering” by resourse person Dr. S. Nagan.

A guest lecture was arranged on 5th

November 2012 on the topic “Environmental

Engineering” by Mr. K. Pandi Assistant Professor, Sardar Raja College of Engineering.

New building in the Second floor comprising of seminar hall, faculty Room, tutorial

room was installed.

Second floor was extended with the construction of a lab of Optical and Microwave

comprising of 106m2 .

For the new lab, equipments like Fibre Optic Analog transmitter &receiver kit, optical

fibre transceiver trainer, laser communication module, charateristics of LED trainer,

characteristics of photo Diode trainer, microwave traning kit X and K band and

microwave training kit GUNN diode module were purchased at Vi Microsystems Pvt.

Ltd.

The strength of our final year is 17 out of which 4 are admitted through regular and 13

lateral entries.

The strength of our third year is 56 out of which 44 are regular and 12 are lateral entry.

The strength of our second year is 31 out of which 25 regular and 6 lateral entry.

A symposium was organized on 5.10.2012 resourced by Dr. M. Irulappan on E-

SPLINTERZ 2K12.

A workshop was organized on 21.7.2012 resourced by Mr. G. Rajakumar on Advanced

VLSI System Design and Research Issues.

A workshop was organized on 29.8.2012 resourced by Mr. R. Muthu Prabhu on

Embedded systems using 8051.

Our final students visited Jiffy Solutions, Bangalore on5.9.2012 and stayed there for 3

days.

Our 3rd

year students visited Virtual Reality Department Wonderla on 16.8.2012 and

stayed there for 2 days.

A guest lecture was organized on 13.10.12 resourced by Mr. R. Muthukumar, AP/Mech,

Dr. Sivanthi Aditanar College of Engineering, Thiruchendur titled “Principles of

Management”.

Another guest lecture was organized on 11.10.12 headed by Mr. M. Ravindran, Sr.

AP/EEE, National Engineering College, Kovilpatti entitled “Power System Operation

and Control”.

An other lecture was organized on 14.8.12 headed by Mr. R. Srithar, AP/EEE, SRM

University, Chennai on “Wind and Solar Energy”.

An association for Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme was organized by experts

from industries on 15.2.2013.

Our final year students visited Maxim Power Solutions Bangalore on 16.8.‟12 and stayed

there for 4 days.

Our third year students visited power plant wonderla kerala on 30.8.‟13 and stayed there

for three days.

Our second year students visited Nuclear Power Project-Kudankulam on 7.3.2013 and

stayed there for a day.

A new laboratory mechatronics with area 7.77x9.02m is opened in the first floor.

New equipments were purchased for the lab.

We admitted 27 regular students and 37 lateral entry students for our final year

during the academic year 2012-13.

our third year during the academic year 2012-13.

48 students were admitted through regular and 9 through lateral entry for Second

year A batch during the academic year 2012-13.

This department was established during the current academic year 2012-13.


Electronic Design Lab I & II were set up at first EEE floor.

New equipments for the lab like DSP trainer kit, PIC Controller universal trainer kit, PIC

Microcontroller kit, CPLD Trainer kit, Arm 7 trainer kit and 16 bit based Temperature

Control trainer were purchased.

A workshop was organized by Prof. M. Malleswaran, AP/GCE titled soft computing and

statistical signal processing on 3.11.12.
