HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY –AT A GLANCE Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is a wholly owned

subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), South Korea .

The largest passenger car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer in India.

HMIL's fully integrated state-of-the-art manufacturing plant near Chennai boasts of the most advanced production, quality and testing capabilities in the country.

To cater to rising demand, HMIL commissioned its second plant in February 2008, which produces an additional 300,000 unitsper annum, raising HMIL’s total production capacity to 600,000units per annum. [7]

DIE CAST • Molten Metal Supply : Supply of molten(700℃) aluminum into

casting heater

• Die casting : Injection of melted alloy at high-speed/high-pressure into a precise mold and quick cooling/hardening → Well-surfaced high-precision mass-production

• Flow Hole Cutting : Cutting of a flow hole after the casting process

• AGV Conveyance : Unmanned automated conveyance of automatic-transmission cases to post-processing lines with AGV*

• AGV –Automatic Guided Vehicle [8]

DIE CAST

• The die-casting machines for zinc, lead and low melting non-ferrous alloy parts can be widely used in automobile, motorcycle parts, instruments and meters, household hardware, household appliances and other industrial sectors This machine has three options for work method: manual, semi-automatic, automatic. Injection system using bladder accumulators, radio feed speed, enabling more reliable injection system, and can improve the quality of die castings. This machine is suitable for production of high quality die castings. [1]

• Finishing Machine : Cutting of undesirable parts(i.e. hole, etc.) during the assembly of an automatic-transmission case

• Leak Test : Oil-leakage check on an inner case with a leak tester → OK/NG [8]

• To minimize the noise level of running automobiles, automotive engineers prefer to use parts with a very smooth surface finish to remove any possible friction. Engineers make sure to measure smoothness of the surface before moving on to the assembly stage, particularly when the parts are for automotive engines and transmissions (such as crank shaft, cam shaft, input and output shaft, and speed gear). This creates a fully integrated automobile system.[2]

• . This increases crude steel production capacity to 24 million tons and makes Hyundai Steel the world’s 11th-largest steelmaker.

• The new facility is capable of producing four million tons of molten metal a year, and it has the same size as each of the two furnaces currently in operation with an area of 5,250m3, a maximum diameter of 17m and a height of 110m[3]

• Hobbing : Rotation of the HOB cutter & gear while lifting up the cutter → Shaping of desirable Tooth Shape*

TESTING/SHIPPING Oil Pressure/Noise Test

1) Oil Pressure Test : Oil pressure check for each gear-shifting mode

2) Noise Test : Shifting noise assessment for each gear-shifting mode (inclusive of gear errors and others)

Shipping : Loading of finished automatic transmissions onto pallets and their delivery to a automotive manufacturing plant according to a certain shipping plan [8]

TESTING/SHIPPING

Automobiles are tested by following tests :

1. Noise test

2. Oil pressure test

And finally automobiles are sent to all over the world .
