Summer is finally here and we are enjoying outdoor activities once again. First I need to brag

So, did any of you take my advice to get involved last month? Did you set a goal to

attend at least one event in May? Why, you ask? For YOUR sake! All the activities

this Chamber plans are with YOU in mind. They are all opportunities to network.

They are all designed with our members in mind.

What a fun month we have had, right up until the end on May 31st with our first 2014

Cruise Night Block Party. A beautiful evening, a huge turnout (biggest one yet), 2

Presenting Sponsors – Evviva & Bill Kay Chevrolet. Many Chamber businesses got

involved by setting up displays for their business during the event. Cost for that is only $50 – you

can’t go wrong! Lots of good business connections made between sponsor businesses and at-

tendees too!

All of the events hosted by the Chamber hold great potential for your business – and they are fun

gatherings! Here are a few opportunities for June. Put a couple of them on your calendar. Bring a

friend or coworker with you. Successful Chamber Members are Active Chamber Members:

June 5th Ribbon Cutting at Riedy’s Tee Time 5 p.m. (these are always fun!)

June 9th Cruise Night Plng Mtg, The Nook in Lisle 5p.m. (new members always welcome)

June 12th Charity Event at Evviva – (Mayor Broda is cooking for us.)

June 17th LENG Meeting at Wheatstack 5-6p.m. (come check it out)

June 18th Business After Hours at Lisle Station Park, 5-6 p.m. (excellent networking opp.)

June 19th DuPage Hounds Game, Benedictine University – 5 p.m.

June 28th Cruise Night/Block Party on Main Street – 6-10 p.m.

Your Chamber Board Members are hard at work behind the scenes as well. We are getting

involved on committees, attending events, and helping to implement some great ideas from our

Marketing Plan. Current activities include recruitment of a Junior Board (made up of College

Business Majors) to assist us with ideas and processes to improve our social media marketing. As

your governing board, responsible for the direction of our Chamber, we are also working on our

own job descriptions and key responsibilities to you, the members. Another summer endeavor will

be to draft and send out a member survey. We want to gather feedback on ways we can improve

YOUR experience as Chamber Members.

Great momentum going for 2014 – let’s capitalize on it!! Grow our business contacts, grow our

involvement, and grow our businesses -- together!! Have a great month!

Lisle French Market Come out and enjoy the 2014 season featuring new vendors, including a knife

sharpening service, and of course, your favorite prior vendors will be on-

site. Look for MANY new products such as meat, cheese, eggs, poultry, olive

oils, herbs, kettlecorn, hot dog concession, honey, snow cones, pizza! Weekly

entertainment and monthly food demonstrations will augment your shopping

experience! This event is a pleasant amenity for the people of our community

and also presents some very unique opportunities for our local businesses and

non-profits. Contact [email protected] for more information.

CHAMBERVISION

The General Membership Luncheon took place on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Hilton Lisle/

Naperville. This was a particularly special event as we awarded $500 scholarships to the ten high

school students thoughtfully selected by our Scholarship Committee. Congratulations to our scholarship

recipients: Carrie Castenello, Jefferson Chan, Kevin Coppin, Sharad Crosby, Samaneh Ghassemi,

Melanie Holland, Valeria Melo, Scott Provenzano, Max Tarasewicz, and Andrew Trzeciak, we wish

you all the best of luck!!

This event also featured guest speaker, Dr. Cassandra Sheffield, who discussed the main types of social

media most prevalent today. She really emphasized the importance of determining the type of presence

you want to have in the social media world. Once you have an established purpose, you can focus your

efforts on the social media site(s) that will help you achieve your goal. All social media sites serve

different purposes, so instead of joining every site, determine which one best aligns with your goals and

develop your identity there. A crucial part of being in the social media world is making a point of

staying relevant. Make sure your information is current, and that you are regularly posting, tweeting or

updating your profile. For more information about this presentation, or to view Dr. Sheffield’s

PowerPoint, go to www.lislechamber.com.

Allison Cooper of Liberty Mutual Insurance has been in the industry for over six years,

beginning in college as an Agency Intern and continuing on as agent support staff before

becoming an agent in 2013. Her primary duties at Liberty Mutual include selling auto, home

and life insurance products while being very active in the community which allows her to

meet and connect with new people while assisting them with their insurance needs.

Allison has been a Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce member since December 2013, and

became an Ambassador in January 2014. She enjoys her time as an Ambassador because it has provided

her the opportunity to meet and welcome new members while also serving as their liaison for any

questions they may have as a new member.

Allison lives in Lisle with her spouse, two dogs, and a cat. She and her spouse are currently expecting

their first son at the end of this summer. She enjoys trying new restaurants and spending time with her

friends and family. She is a self-proclaimed sports fanatic and loves watching and attending as many

sporting events as possible, especially when it comes to the Green Bay Packers. Allison shares a favorite

quote, “Winning is a habit. Watch your thoughts, they become your beliefs. Watch your beliefs, they

become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your

The Lisle Area Chamber held a New Member Orientation on

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville. In

attendance were Board Members, Ambassadors, Chamber Chairs

and staff, as well as several of our new members. Tom Althoff

led the meeting and provided information about various

upcoming Chamber events. Each Committee Chair spoke about

their committee and the importance of getting involved in order

to reap as many benefits as possible from Chamber membership.

The Ambassadors discussed how their participation provides

them numerous opportunities to meet with new members and act

as a mentor, providing assistance to them as needed. Whether you attend Chamber events, or become

involved in a committee or as an Ambassador, active involvement in the Chamber presents many

opportunities to learn about local businesses, showcase your own business and develop relationships

with various members of the business community.
