Dear Recruiters,

Today’s businesses need Managers who are not only efficient functionaries but are also leaders in their own right and have a vision for the company.

Thus strategic thinking, wealth creating and business acumen to compete, excel and win are amongst the salient competencies required at the middle and senior level in the organisation. To inculcate these is the objective of the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (MDI). We have developed an environment that ensures rigour, encourages team work and expects excellence. The focus on value based education system coupled with extracurricular activities helps us in transforming our participants into managers and leaders of tomorrow. And, our programmes are regulation compliant and internationally accredited.

As you may be aware we have 15 months’ Executive Graduate Programs for those who have at least five years of experience in executive positions. We have two such programs, National Management Program (NMP) and Energy Management Program (EMP). These programs cater to the evolving requirements in the field of Management. Therefore, along with providing specialisations in numerous facets of management to the participants of NMP, we also provide sector focused specialisation in field of energy and power to the participants of EMP. These courses set a premium on interdisciplinary perspectives and interactive learning. The curriculum is grounded in our conviction that great leadership is what you do “with” people and not what you do “to” people. Such an atmosphere develops in our students a thirst for innovation and a will to excel.

The class of 2012-13 comprises some of the brightest minds in the country, hailing from diverse educational backgrounds, selected after an extremely gruelling process, and honed by some of the brightest faculty in the country supplemented by their own academic rigours.

MDI Gurgaon boasts of one of the most distinguished student exchange programmes in the country. It has forged strategic partnerships with more than 80 international institutes and it is this extensive network which provides the students from the institute an excellent opportunity to complement their understanding of the Indian business scenario with cross-cultural management skills. Depending upon the association with the partner institute, a student may spend a term abroad or may also pursue a dual degree from the partner institute and MDI. Equipped with these experiences, the students of MDI are well positioned to perform in the globalized business scenario.

Accreditation

MDI was the first Indian Business School and the second in Asia to be accredited by an International Institution – Association of MBA’s (AMBA), London. In 2011, MDI became the only Indian B-School to have all its courses accredited by AMBA. In addition to this, MDI has also been granted the coveted South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS) accreditation.

AcademicPartnerships

MDI offers a host of programmes launched in association with its esteemed partner institutes. At the executive management level, MDI’s partnership with the OneMBA consortium has contributed to the establishment of programmes in association with universities like ESCP – Europe. At the post graduate level, MDI has launched the International Management programme wherein students spend their first year at MDI and second year in Europe. As a part of the second leg, the students pursue six month full-time internships with leading European companies.

Achievements

In the past few years the students of MDI have been performing brilliantly in the international arena. Most recently, a team from MDI was Runners-up in the Schneider Electric Go Green Competition held in Paris, where they competed with teams from across the globe.

Faculty members at MDI are involved in action centric research, and organizational problems are solved with academic rigour. Many faculty members have maintained their focus of research on certain key topics and have established their expertise and credibility in that area.

MDI encourages its faculty and doctoral candidates to publish their papers in quality journals classified in Class A, B, and C, based on ISI Thomson Scientific Journal Impact Factor and cases in Asia Case Research Centre, Hong Kong.

MDI faculty members are collaborating with leading institutions and societies for participating in international conferences and conducting research projects. They continually engage in publishing high quality research papers and reports.

MDI boasts of the highest research output among B-Schools in the country. To further research at the institute, MDI has signed an MoU with Asia Case Research Centre (ACRC), Hong Kong to promote the India Business Series. As part of this initiative, MDI faculty has published cases such as:

The journal is a scholastic platform for sharing of ideas, developing a culture of academic and industrial research, and beginning the trend of debates through publishing articles of varied genres. ‘Vision’ contains contributions from distinguished academicians and researchers of national and international repute.

NationalManagementProgramThe MDI’s Executive PGPM, also known as National Management Programme (NMP), is a 12+3 months post graduate full time residential programme running with the key objectives of providing:

• A holistic perspective of current business realities

• An ability to recognize and seize opportunity in competitive environment

• An ardent commitment towards betterment of the society

• A mind set towards global sensitivity

The programme is recognized by AICTE and is accredited by AMBA, the Association of MBAs (UK). It focuses on developing leaders who will excel in the rapidly changing business environment, become agents of change and be charged with a customer centric orientation. The programme offers blend of General Management courses with options of specialization in Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Operation, Information Technology, Human Resources and Economics.

The entry into the programme is based on the performance in GMAT/CAT followed by Personal Interview. On successful completion of the programme requirements, the participants are awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).

ENERGyMANAGEMENTPROGRAMEnergy Management is a unique offering from MDI. It is an exclusive industry-focused programme which addresses the dare need of highly skilled business professionals to sail through the management challenges in the Energy Sector. In 2011 it became possibly the only programme with AMBA accreditation targeted at Energy Sector.

Energy is possibly the most critical input to rapid economic growth and development of an economy. The accelerated growth unlashed since the 1990s & early 2000s have led to major initiatives which are structurally changing the policy environment.

Energy sector in India is passing through critical times. India’s growth aspiration would be severely affected due to constraints in energy supply. Keeping in mind the bourgeoning demand-supply gap in an energy starved nation like India, which is further distorted by wasteful management practices, there is an immense investment scope in energy infrastructure and energy management in an environmental friendly manner. MDI became the pioneer by launching programme to train professionals in the areas of energy management. This program was launched in 2005 to address these issues with the help of USAID and Ministry of Power. Over the last year its domain has been broadened from power to other spheres of energy namely oil & gas, coal, carbon market, energy efficiency etc.

Through this programme we also aspire to meet our social responsibilities.

Batchof2012-2013Perfect Balance: This is the 6th batch of Executive Post Graduate Programme in Energy management (also known as EMP). The batch has a minimum of 5 years of experience in the Energy domain. Energy Initiatives: Lots of initiation have been taken by this batch & ‘Energy Times’ is one of the most known effort. It is four page monthly newsletters by energy management executives. It aims to provide a platform to the energy management executives to share their views and analysis about the current national and international trends/events in the energy/power/oil & gas sector. It also provides an account of information about various extracurricular activities/events organized under the Energy Management Program like the ‘One Week Energy Seminar’ in collaboration with ESCP Europe; Guest Lectures by the Industry Experts on various Key issues of energy sector; Industrial visits to the TERI, IRRAD & ITC’s green buildings etc. Apart from these a particular section of ‘Energy Times’ is devoted to various new enterprises/tech start-ups coming up in the energy sector like ‘Gram Power’, ‘Altaeros Energies’, ‘SELCO’ etc. which are using innovative technologies and management methods to provide smart energy solutions. Ideas nurtured by this have also been published in the local newspaper. Participants of this batch are also trying to minimise the dependencies of MDI on regular power by innovating the ideas of renewable energy sources inside the campus.
