Yes OR No
Irrespective of the subject – there are always right answers
Children need to be given answers!
Teachers need to give the right answers – write on the board, dictate, mark in the textbook
Teachers give answers – 1 way communication Students aren’t given adequate opportunities
to think, make decisions & question
A few questions to answer…
• Did the chicken or the egg come first?
• Is it colour (UK English) or color (American English)? If your student submits a project in American English, will you minus marks – will it be considered wrong?
• Is it correct to steal from rich and give to the poor?
• Why do people lie? (Is it alright to lie if nobody gets hurt?)
Walk the Talk!
“Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.” Robert Fulghum
As educators we must practice what they preach – team work, accept everyone, be sensitive, respect time, be impartial…
To study, students should be serious!
Memorizing the subject = Learning
Discipline, silence and seriousness are essential for students to learn (most of the time)
If they are having a fun time, they are not learning
As long as students do well in their exams – that’s all that matters
• With certain subjects, can there be no right and no wrong answers? Can answers be based on one’s perception, background, experiences???
• Can students be encouraged to relate learning to their own lives & formulate perspectives??? - ‘Experiential Learning’
• Are we role models for our students?
• Can learning be fun? Will it then be more impactful and lasting???
• Is learning complete with understanding? Should students be given an opportunity to put learning into practice???
ACTIVITY TIME!

We are using the interest/impact of Media to our advantage.
Is this enough?
Past: Films are watched at leisure, too much of it is bad for a child’s health, content may have a negatively influence

Children Learn What They Live
By Dorothy Law Nolte
If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient.
If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and others.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live
