How to create jobs for the Kenyan youths
Team: Low-Level youth Bunge group
Country: Kenya
2/2/2013
EFFECTS OF YOUTHS UNEMPLOYMENT IN KENYA
Unemployment is indeed a global issue and the politicians are really
using this as their tool to hunt votes. The following are the major
effects of unemployment in Kenya:
1. High rate of crime/high population in our prisons
2. Increased prostitution/sex tourism
3. High rate of rural to urban migration
4. Drug abuse
5. Creation of vigilantes groups
6. Expansion of informal settlement(slums)
7. Increased cases of illegal abortion
8. Early marriages-especially school girls marring old men.
9. Inter-ethnic clashes
CAUSES OF YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT IN KENYA
1. Early pregnancy is a major problem facing school girls making
them to drop school at the age of 14.Infuture they end-up
unemployed since they did not get the bench mark qualification.
2. Lack of talent academies in most parts of the country. We all
know that talent is the greatest source of employment, and it
pays a lot.
3. High energy cost, leading to high cost of production thus scaring
away investors.
4. Inaccessibility to loans due to so much requirements/high interest
rate.
5. Poor education system, whereby one teacher handles a class of
over 80 students.
6. Few chances at high school prevents majority of youths to go past
primary school stage i.e. over 600,000 students did their exams
and over 250,000 will miss high school education this year.
7. Lack of technological /economical know-how. This is because the
type of skills gain at school is not enough to handle the 21st
century technological and economic needs.
8. Few youth’s involvement in agriculture.
9. Grants/funds from local &international NGOs not reaching the
youths or in some cases only a small portion gets to the intended
recipients.
10. Bad governance plus numerous empty promises from our
leaders.
SOLUTION TO YOUTH UNEMPLOMENT IN KENYA
1. Compulsory sex education programs in our schools. This will
reduce cases of early pregnancy/HIV thus this will keep them in
school thus a chance to have a bright career in future.
2. Sports and other talents pay a lot. Therefore the government
should build talent academies in all the 47 counties in Kenya.
3. The government should invest in cheaper and green energy
projects so as to lower the cost of production and as a result this
will attract more investors thus creating jobs.
4. The government should come up with grants programs for the
youths to stimulate the growth and creation of business.
5. The government should build more and well equipped schools
and employ more teaching staffs.
6. Entrepreneurship and technical education should be enhanced
among the school leavers and those in schools in order to
promote creation of business.
7. Agri-business education should be enhanced and the government
should lease the un-used land to its youths free of charge so as to
promote careers in this sector.
8. The international/local NGOs should work directly with the youths
other than using other agents. This will ensure transparency in
grant distribution/proper use of their money.
9. The youths should well be represent in government offices, this
include going for political post ensure that their issues are well
resolved.
10. Promotion of peace, love and unity should enhance be
enhance through peace campaigns/talk in order to attract foreign
investors.

ABSRACT
The above is a copy of my original research work and has never been
presented to any organization.
Majority of the youths that I interviewed said that the former regimes
did not benefit them since they only paid attention to the regions
where they came from, and unless the constitution which they had
passed is well implemented they will still remain as economical back
benchers and thus not solving the unemployment problem.
