Overview The Assessment feature is an option in Chalkable Study Center that gives the teacher the ability to create assessments online and attach them to any Chalkable Classroom item (i.e., activity, homework, quiz or lesson plan). An assessment is a tool used to measure knowledge about a subject and the ability to apply that knowledge. An assessment is made up of items/passages and answers.

• The assessment module comes with a pre-loaded system Global Question Bank. The school or any user with appropriate permission may add additional Item Banks to the module. Items cannot be added to the Global Question Bank by a user.

• Many Reading Passages are contained in the Global Question Bank and may be attached as questions on a test.

• All Question Banks may be edited except the Global Question Bank; however, users may duplicate and rename an item from the Global Question Bank and then edit it.

• A Passage is composed of text and images used to solve test questions and aligned to state standards and searchable by grade level.

• Items and Passages may be organized by bank and subject.

• All Questions and Passage banks may be used in the creation of tests. Once the Question and Passage banks are set up, they are used to create assessments. An assessment/test is a group of questions used to assess the knowledge of a student. Assessments may be aligned with standards/courses of study. Each assessment is assigned a maximum score, start date/time, end date/time and attached to an item in Chalkable Classroom. Once an online test is created and attached to an activity, students in that section may log in via the student portal and take the test. The assessment is automatically graded and displayed in Assessment Results. The teacher must approve the score before it is posted to Chalkable Classroom. Test grades may be overridden by the teacher. For example, a test item may be set up as a Constructive Response requiring the student to write a narrative response. The only criterion required is a minimum number of lines. In this instance, the teacher may need to read each response and award grade subjectively.

Accessing To access assessments, select the Assessment tab on the left.

Note: Admin Portal users may also access the Assessment tool by selecting their name in the upper right hand corner and choosing Admin Portal and selecting the Assessment tab.

o Create Passage(s) needed for questions.

• Create Assessment.

• Attach Questions/Passages to assessment

o Align to grade level, subject, standards

• Assign test to students.

o By section or by student group

• Score tests.

o Online: Scored automatically and may be accepted into the grade book item/activity.

Global Banks • A global question bank containing questions/answers comes preinstalled and may not be edited.

• A global passage bank comes preinstalled and may not be edited.

Passages A Passage is text and/or image(s) used to solve the problem or answer the question in an assessment question. For example, a passage may be an exerpt from a story from which questions will be derived. Passages must first be created before they may be attached to a question in an assessment. From the Question Bank screen, select the Passages tab at the top.
