When Susanand I lookinto our backyard today,
the realityis prettystark. It issimply grass
and fencing. So we often find ourselvesreflecting on the beautiful landscapingwe have achieved in other yards overthe years and dreaming about whatwe can achieve in this yard. In short,we envision a landscaping plan thatwill include an expanded patio and afive year, evolutionary planting and
development process that will involvelots of work and pleasure.
Once John had baptized Jesus, witnessed the Holy Spirit come uponhim, and recognized him as the “Sonof God,” two of John’s disciples began
to follow Jesus. Noticing them, Jesusstopped and asked, “What is it thatyou want?” To this question, the twodisciples replied, “Rabbi (teacher), where
are you staying?” In other words, “We want to go with you.” So Jesus replied,“Come and see.” And they did. (John1:29-39)
In our table conversations over the pasttwo weeks we have been affirming, asPaul suggested to the church at Philippi, that which in our life together is goodand true; that which is commendableand right; that which is just and worthyof praise; that which is honorable andexcellent (Philippians 4:8). Now we
begin the process of interweaving thesequalities into the fabric of our future. With the gifts we possess, we can start todream. We can follow Jesus and see thepossibilities for that which God is callingus to be and do. So, “come and see.”
