A thunderstorm. No big deal. Thisis Oklahoma. We have lots ofthem. And only

those with thepotential for atornado cause us

concern, or those with softball size hail. Butust a thunderstormnah. We like rain. Buthen, it keeps on rainingand rainingandraining. Now its pouring. What started as annnocent thunderstorm is a proverbial frogstranglera Noah moment with flooding.know. I was right in the middle of it with

my small (and getter smaller by the minute)un, frugal, and functional Hyundaitryingo get to the church. Thankfully, I made

ittwo and one half hours into the process, but I made it.

Once again, I was amongst the blessed. Iwas safe. My car was safe. And my neigh-borhood was spared. But for many, it was a

different story. Homes were flooded. Livesendangered. Furniture ruined. Carpetsdestroyed. Appliances damaged. And wallssoakedup to five feet in some cases.

Such was Monday, June 14, 2010. Atleast one of those homes damaged by theflooding belongs to a church familyJimand Lisa Turner. Another belongs to theAltdoerffers, dear friends of another churchfamily and neighbors of another. Here, onlythe heroic efforts of a grandson saved the livesof physically impaired and frail grandparents.

As of this date, the First Christian Church

family is set to receive $1500 from Weekof Compassion for these two families to galong with another $2500 from our ownuncommitted Outreach funds. We are atrying to line up work crews for repairs ifand when needed. Perhaps you wouldlike to helpfinancially and/or manu-ally. Simply make your donations to FirsChristian Church identifying them for FloRelief. Designate that donation if it is forany one particular family. Should you wito volunteer labor and/or repair equipmecall me at the church or email me at jblafccedmond.org

We come to God as children caring fGods children (Luke 9:48). Jerry
