Year 3/4 Happy Campers

Our Year 3/4 children and staff will return home from camp around 3.00pm this

afternoon exhausted, but I’m sure with big smiles on their faces! I have already heard

many exciting stories about the adventures that were had and the wonderful

experiences shared together. Camps are such an important part of a child’s school

experience and social development, and I am sure the memories of this camp will be

talked about for many years to come!

Year 6 Production – Alice In Wonderland

The Year 6 students have been working very hard on developing an amazing production – ‘Alice in

Wonderland’. The production is being held next Wednesday 6th December, at the Hallam Theatrette. All

Year 6 students are taking part in this wonderful experience, parents and staff are very much looking

forward to this very special moment in their children’s schooling.

Chalcot Dance Crew Performance – Saturday 2nd December

Our Chalcot Dance Crew will be showcasing their cool moves at the Endeavour Hills

Shopping Centre tomorrow morning at 12.30 in front of K Mart. We would love to see as

many Chalcot faces enjoying the performance and supporting our Year 6 Dance Crew!

Casual Dress Day – Tuesday 5th December

Just a reminder that next Tuesday is Casual Dress Day.

To take part in casual dress students are asked to bring along an item (one item per family)

that can be used to enhance the Parent Club Christmas Hamper Special Efforts.

Items can include: candles, Christmas decorations, box of chocolates, mince pies, plum

puddings, shortbread biscuits or anything you think would be great in a hamper.

Please ensure that items are new and within the used by date.

All items donated will go into creating hampers that will be raffled during the Concert under the Oaks.

Parent Helpers - Thank You Morning Tea

It would be wonderful if all our helpers would accept our invitation to attend the special

morning tea we have planned for Tuesday 5th December. It’s our way of showing our

appreciation for your magnificent support for our students, teachers and school.

If you are able to attend our Parent Helper’s Thankyou Morning Tea, please accept the

invitation via Flexibuzz by tonight please.

Parent Club Disco

The Parent Club will be holding their Term 4 Day Disco on Thursday 21st

December (last day of Term 4). The disco ball will be flashing from

9.15am to 10.15am for Years Prep to 2 & 11.30am to 12.30pm for Years

3 to 6.

Students may come along to school in casual dress; however, as the disco

will be held during the school day, casual dress must consist of footwear,

which is appropriate and safe for school. A reminder that no jewellery,

hair colour sprays of any description or makeup is to be worn at school.

The cost is $2.00 per child to attend the disco and a further $2.00 per child to come along in casual dress

($4.00 per child total); Parent Club has put a cap of $10.00 per family. Payment can be made through Qkr

or cash payments will be accepted on the day. Cash payments will not be accepted before the day of the

disco.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Occasionally, situations arise at school that you, as parents, feel that you need to follow up on behalf of

your children. Sometimes it may be a concern with another child or with how a teacher has handled a

situation involving your own child. In following up these matters, we would suggest you contact:

the teacher concerned;

your child’s class teacher;

the year level coordinator; or if necessary

Monica Ghirxi or myself

I know when I follow up incidents, it can sometimes require speaking to a number of people to get the full

story. One of the first things I ask students to tell me is if they may have done anything to contribute to

the problem. You’d be surprised the number of times that I’m told quite definitely NO. However, that is

rarely the case.

Occasionally, students tell us that “My Mum and Dad just said to hit anyone who gives me a hard time.”

or “My Mum and Dad said I could hit back”. The trouble is that this doesn’t solve a problem - instead it

can make it much worse.

It is usually best to make an appointment to talk to the teacher concerned to check the circumstances so

that you can get a full picture of what has occurred. An appointment will also allow the teacher time to

collect any additional information necessary to make the best of the appointment time.

We would very strongly advise parents not to approach students to sort out problems themselves.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS AT SCHOOL

We would request that students do not bring expensive or special jewellery, toys (especially those with

small attachments), games, audio equipment etc to school. There have been occasions when special toys

or other belongings have been lost or broken in the playground causing considerable distress for students

and parents alike. While we encourage responsible care of school and other people’s property, we are

unable to ensure the safety of such items. The school will not accept any responsibility for the loss or

damage to personal belongings.

Lost Property

We have a large amount of unclaimed items of clothing in lost property. Lost property is stored in 2 large

containers in the hall. If your child is missing any items of clothing please come and have a look!!!! Most

of the items are not named and are in good condition.

Any unnamed and unclaimed items will be washed and used as preloved items or disposed of.

Sun Smart

A reminder, that as part of the school’s Sun Smart policy, all students must wear a broad brimmed school

uniform hat during this term, for all outdoor activities. This includes recess and lunch play, during sporting

and physical activity lessons outside and during excursions.

Sharing Hats

To help control the spread of head lice, we do not encourage students who forget their hats to borrow a

spare hat from a friend. We would appreciate it if you could reinforce this with your children at home.
