Why was America interested in the War?

1. Americans favored the French and British

2. The US did a lot of trade with European countries, mainly the Allied Powers

3. The information about the war was coming from Britain and France

4. German’s actions were viewed as harsh

• Britain stopped American ships and ordered them to port for searches

• Germans issued unrestricted submarine warfare– In May of 1915, a German U-boat sank the British

passenger ship Lusitania– Wilson demanded Germany to apologize

• Arthur Zimmermann wrote a note to Mexico• Said Germany would give Mexico Texas,

Arizona and New Mexico if they helped them in the war

• Declared war on April 6, 1917
