I love my garden and all the different ways it becomes the outdoor rooms of the house.

I am always finding ideas to make each different outdoor space unique and able to change with the seasons. The garden helps to do that, but the furniture can, too.

At my new Library house, my own garden has developed over time, and everything in it is constantly evolving. Each weekend something new is happening. Every season has its own feeling.

CENTURY FURNITURE

THOMAS O’BRIEN OUTDOOR COLLECTION

This is what I like to do in assembling outdoor furniture for clients. I’m inclined to mix, instead of sets being rigidly matched. I try to find things that look not only like outdoor furniture but which also have a true, more comfortable interior character. I often have in mind to design pieces that work both ways, and can be at home inside as well as outside. Overall, I am drawn to new garden furniture that has an antique feel, and that seems assembled over time; that’s what helps to make outdoor rooms feel decorated. Even the furniture becomes an important part of how the spaces are planned and planted.

This collection was created with a feeling of both history and ease, and a fine casual way of living outdoors for many applications — from a city terrace to wider countryside; from the relaxed coastal spirit of waterfront resorts and homes to the kind of broad selection that occurs in fine and older houses with many outdoor spaces that need to be visually connected.

The designs come from two antique inspirations — one metal, and one wicker. The metal has a vintage European sense to it; the wicker is an American classic. Every piece is characterized by unique details and variations, and they can all mix in modern ways.

I hope you enjoy the collection as much as I liked making it with my wonderful partners at Century Furniture.
