This is an image that has lots of possibilities. A tighter crop on this would have drawn more attention to the beautiful repetition of patterns/shapes. Inclusion of a person or item of interest in the centre would also improve this image. At the moment my eye follows the corridor to the brick wall. Brightening the image and giving it a high key style could also be considered.

The colours grab your attention. Well captured with limited depth of focus on the butterfly and flower. The blur in the background draws your attention to the subject. Good dynamic range. Needs a little more margin at the bottom as the wing tip is almost lost into the backgroundWould like the butterfly to be tilted anticlockwise for a more balanced composition.

D Baldwin - Cradle MountainMuted colours set the mood of a desolate landscape. Nice composition, interesting sky. Needs a little more contrast/brightness in the midtones.

This looks like a painting – a busy composition that tells the story of a scene full of activity. A slightly tighter crop could help draw the eye to the bridge and building in the far distance. I would have liked something in the foreground as a focal point.I feel like I’m there. Waiting for the 3 boats in the foreground to move up the canal.

G Norman -The Big HookWell spotted. Attention grabbing subject and point of view with the angles and vibrant colours.

Loveable pose. A better story may have been achieved by waiting for the chimp to use the stick in some way to reveal his eyes. A well exposed image in difficult lighting.

Engaging scene, creative composition. There is nice gentle light on the shed, but overall is too dark. Could benefit from a little more brightness and contrast.

Ian Wade - Abandoned

A nice capture of two friends walking. Zooming or getting closer to the subject might have resulted in the lighting being more even.Possibly crop some from the bottom of this image to bring the subject into the bottom third and create more balance.

Well balanced composition. Subject smiling at the camera draws you in. Water splashing shows motion. Great use of reflection. Adjusting levels and/or increasing contrast as well as brightening and a slight straighten/crop, will make the image ‘pop’

Jacquelin Moore - Pushing it

Vibrant colours, lovely silhouettes, well balanced image.Foreground is a little distracting as it has a lot of noise – a slight crop would draw more attention to the figures and remove the bush on the left.

FOURTH PLACE Michael Woltschenko - 1959 Chev Imapla, HavannaClassic street photography. Vibrant colours grab your attention. A scene of contrasts – the bright versus the dull colours, the wealth and care given to the cars versus the condition of the buildings. I find the inclusion of blue foreground car a little awkward/distracting.

Michael Woltschenko - Athabasca Glacier trekChallenging light conditions, good use of cropping to tell the story of a vast freezing landscape. The people give a sense of scale. I feel cold just looking at this image.

M Standing - Moth laying eggsThe clarity and colour palette make this image very appealing. Good timing capturing the egg laying. Possibly give the antennae a little more room on the left.

Outstanding image. Well composed and cropped, good control of light and depth of field.

P Ashe - Here's looking at you kidWell captured and composed. Consider selectively darkening the mouth area and ading more contrast. Possibly crop to remove part of the distracting background on the right or darken that area.

P Ashe - Sooo tastyWell exposed and focused. Beautiful image. Possibly consider removing the flower at the bottom centre.

Well exposed and edited. Relatable and current story. Great contrast and colours between the new growth and old burnt bark.

R Ludstrom - Spotty LizardThe most prominent part of the lizard in this image is the mid section. Possibly moving the camera to the left or getting lower may have produced a more interesting composition. The background is a little distracting.

Ray Faggotter - Flinders St StationSharp, vibrant, engaging building. Well exposed and good dynamic range. Consider a keystone correction to improve composition or crop the left side of the building to match the right.

Ray Faggotter - Grafton Bridge Ride Your Bike CyclistVibrant colours. Nicely composed to illustrate the story which is one of conflict – ride your bike but the road is closed.

Simone Snell – Ned

You have captured the seagull well. Nicely focused with the background blurred.Could add a little contrast to the seagull. Perhaps you could look for a couple of birds interacting to tell a story.

Consider the photographic interest of this subject – is it the vein patterns in the leaves, side-lighting which shows texture? There is no single point of interest to capture the viewers attention. Perhaps consider zooming in on one part of the staghorn.

Susan Massey Goorambat silo, Victoria

Taken at the perfect time of day to maximise the impact of the colours in the painting on the water tank.

Good story here, which might be improved by including more of the surroundings.

Nice light on the boat, thoughtfully composed. The rust makes the yacht look even more neglected and misplaced.

S Watkins - Dark PoolGreat reflections. Consider this in mono with increased contrast. Possibly crop to remove the railing at the right to create a stronger story. Maybe the composition would be stronger if you moved the position of the camera lower down.
