Creating Art in Japan

My proudest moment during my time abroad is when I combined the two areas of study: art and Japanese. I was wandering around Osaka one day, and wound up in a gallery. I was able to strike up an hour-long conversation in Japanese about art with the owners of the gallery, establishing both an art connection and new friendship. Because of my studies I was able to create a potentially helpful contact to further my career in art and open up the doors to showing my art on a global level.

students to an art supply store for a set of pencils or to the library to find a book of prints. A chat with a Japanese roommate might reveal a shared interest in a local gallery. Students soon find that their language skills bring new perspective to their art.

FULL SUPPORT & ASSISTANCE FROM THE PROGRAMCET helps students settle into life in Japan—full-time, on-site staff manage housing, orient students and share cultural insight. The host university, Osaka University of the Arts, evaluates portfolios and assigns each student to studio arts classes that fit individual background, goals and linguistic needs.
