Cooperative Educational Services An invitation to apply for the position of Executive Director ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY Cooperative Educational Services seeks an outstanding educational leader for the position of Executive Director and invites qualified and interested candidates to apply. C.E.S. is seeking candidates who are highly experienced educators possessive of some classroom experience and an extensive administrative background. Consultants with the C.E.S. division Executive Searches will facilitate the search. A new leader is expected to assume full responsibilities of the office on or before July 1, 2018. ABOUT C.E.S. C.E.S. is a public education agency based in Trumbull, Conn., that provides educational support and services to school districts and communities in Fairfield County, Conn. It offers community-based education through four school programs, including outplacement special education services, educational and support training, and other community and school-district related services. The agency’s goal is to provide educators and district leaders with the cutting- edge training to best prepare students. The 18 school districts in the C.E.S. catchment area comprise a public school enrollment in excess of 116,000 students. The schools operated by C.E.S. are Six to Six Magnet School in Bridgeport, the Regional Center for the Arts in Trumbull, a Special Education division with facilities in two Trumbull locations, and a School Readiness preschool program. C.E.S. also boasts a robust Professional Development Services division that helps districts and educators implement solid, innovative classroom practices, and an Executive Searches division that locates and recruits effective leaders for schools and districts throughout the state. C.E.S. is one of six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs) in Connecticut and is a member of the RESC Alliance. RESCs were created more than 50 years ago by the state legislature to help neighboring school districts communicate and collaborate. CANDIDATE PROFILEQualified candidates are expected to meet the following general performance standards:• Have significant high-level executive leadership experience, preferably as a district Superintendent of Schools.• Possess an advanced degree in education; a doctorate degree is preferred.• Be a quick learner who can readily assess strengths and weaknesses in an organization and work effectively with people;

has a track record of team building and collaboration.• Be able to recruit, develop and retain high-quality personnel to meet the current and future needs of the agency, as well as delegate responsibilities and hold people accountable for their actions and performance.• Possess the knowledge and ability to establish trust and build confidence within and outside the agency, including state leaders in education and government, C.E.S. business partners, and district superintendents.• Be a strategic thinker, creative problem-solver, innovative, understand systems, and have a keen business sense for growing revenue and managing fiscal resources.• Be visible in agency schools and C.E.S. communities.• Understand the financial situation in member school districts in order to offer creative solutions to budget issues and their ramifications for C.E.S. and member districts.• A future-oriented thinker who can build on regional collaboration to poise the agency for sustaining and increasing its regional leadership role.• Be able to effectively communicate with a broad array of constituents and stakeholders.• Possess solid core values of integrity, honesty and professional ethics.• Be approachable and accessible to employees and constituents.• Lead C.E.S. in its prominent regional role to address educational reform issues.• Have the ability to set priorities for action, and work with C.E.S. stakeholders in meeting high expectations for the agency.• Have strong experience in creating and fostering high-quality special education programs and services.

CONTRACT PROVISIONSCooperative Educational Services expects to offer the

successful candidate a three-year employment contract based on a compensation package commensurate with the new Executive Director’s qualifications, credentials, and experience. Provisions of the contract will be competitive for the region.
