Tunxis Continuing Education Healthcare Careers Programs Program Description Certified Sterile Processing Technicians (CSPT) are responsible for the sanitation and packaging of surgical instruments in hospitals, doctors’ offices, surgical centers and clinics. They organize and assemble routine and specialty instrument trays and sterilized supplies; operate and maintain sterilization equipment including sterilizers, aerators and washers; and maintain records and inventory. Technicians must be able to stand on their feet for prolonged periods of time; be able to multitask; and may be required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Certified Sterile Processing Technician Program

Time Commitment

This 15-week course meets for 60 hours, 4 hours on Thursday evenings. An optional 20-hour internship experience at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford is recommended. Offered in the spring and fall.

Payment and Other Important Information

Total cost for the CSPT program is $1,604 (price is subject to change).

• Total cost includes tuition, administrative fee, textbook, Essential Job Skills & Career Development course and CBSPD national exam fee.

• Optional Internship (20 hours) fee: $279 or $449 depending on the site chosen by the student. Open to present and past CSPT students.

• Students meet with the Allied Health Coordinator to select dates for internship.

• WIOA & CT SNAP approved. Payment plan available.

The Essential Job Skills & Career Development course is required to receive a certificate of completion for the CSPT program. This course is offered at various times each semester. Medical Terminology (available online: ed2go.com/tunxis) is suggested but not required.

Withdrawal/Refunds: Refunds may be obtained if your written withdrawal is submitted to the Continuing Education & Workforce Development Office three business days prior to the first meeting of class. Refunds generally take 2-4 weeks to process. There are no refunds once a class has started or for fees labeled “non-refundable”.
