Test Method The test on the damper assembly was carried out utilising the general principles of BS 476: Part 20: 1987, ‘Methods for determination of the fire resistance of elements of construction (general principles)’ to determine the integrity performance of the specimen as defined in that standard. This method has been used historically to determine the fire resistance performance of damper assemblies prior to the introduction of BS ISO 10294-1: 1996 and BS EN 1366-2: 1999. The specimen was assessed against the integrity performance criteria of BS 476: Part 20: 1987.

Certification Evidence Test Report: WF Test Report No. 381029 Sampling and Factory Production Control The ARABIAN THERMAL AIRE INDUSTRIES CO. LTD factory where the damper units are manufactured has been subjected to an audit of the Factory Production Control procedures and found to be in accordance with the Exova Warrington Certification requirements. The test damper specimen was independently sampled by representatives of Exova Warrington Certification.

Product Description

The ATAI WGDB Motorised Fire/Smoke Dampers are un-insulated multi-blade steel damper assemblies. The damper units comprise steel aerofoil blades made from 0.6 mm thick steel with 19 mm diameter, 1.2 mm wall thickness steel blade drive shafts mounted in a steel frame of 1.2 mm thickness. The dampers side seals are fabricated from Grade 301 stainless steel of 0.3mm thickness and 73mm width. The blades are nominally 100mm wide and a maximum of 922 mm continuous length. Multiple damper units, of individual maximum opening aperture dimensions of 1005 mm high by 928 mm wide may be connected together, using transoms and/or mullions, up to a maximum overall module size of 3000 mm high by 3000mm wide with shared blade drive shafts. Individual damper modules, having maximum aperture opening dimensions of 1005 mm high by 928 mm wide, may also be provided, fitted directly into the supporting constructions. The dampers are operated by means of Belimo FS Series spring return actuators.

The damper units are fixed to the supporting construction (concrete or masonry constructions only) by means of steel perimeter fixing angles. This scope of approval details the various installation options that can be used.

Scope of Approval

The ATAI WGDB Motorised Fire/Smoke Dampers are approved for a fire resistance performance of 240 minutes Integrity generally in accordance with BS 476: Part 20: 1987. The scope of the approval includes dampers installed in vertical orientations only. NOTE: Approval is given only for dampers which are in the fully closed position at the start of any fire exposure conditions.

The approval is subject to the parameters/limits listed in Table1 below:
