• is the current assessor qualification required for anyone assessing competencies from a National Training Package

• supercedes training in Certificate IV Assessment and Workplace Training*

• contains a suite of units, of which 12 “mandatory” and 2 “elective” units must be completed.

Key terms used in the package:

• Assessor – qualified person who assesses your project

• Candidate – that gorgeous person you saw when you looked in the mirror this morning!!

• Student – the person you will assess for the purposes of this project

1. Work together on PLANNING the assessment.- include OHS and communication where applicable- assess in a “real” work environment- plan for assessment to take no longer than 1 hour

1. Each participant MUST submit a separate project2. Include assessment tools and relevant parts of Part B of the ICF,

The Assessment Process

• assessed by a panel convened by SWSIT• projects deemed “COMPETENT” or “MER” (More Evidence

Required)• if MER, you’ll be contacted and advised by SWSIT• the Appeals process – independent assessor (Refer to page 4 in the Introduction)

• Meet at least 1 week before assessment• Explain purpose of assessment• Discuss elements/units to be assessed; how evidence will be

• After conducting the assessment, recording the evidence on the observation guide and making a decision based on evidence, you now need to provide feedback to the student.

• Use a private environment• Discuss performance• Ask open ended questions of the student to see if they feel they

have demonstrated competence

• Give constructive feedback on aspects of performance that require improvement but also recognise achievement

• Record result in presence of student• Get student to sign off on observation guide. A comment is

optional• Sign observation guide yourself and make a comment• If result is not yet competent, explain options and appeals process

Review the whole assessment process including evidence methods, assessment tools, student preparation, conduct of assessment and feedback to student.Evidence for your review will come from at least 3 sources:• Yourself• The student• Your peer assessor or mentor• Input from workplace personnel may be appropriate
