Position
Laikipia University Marathon started in 2011 . Its aim
is to act as a marketing tool for an International High
Altitude Sports Training and Research Centre
(HASTRC) and to increase funding to support the
University’s sports mission while promoting fitness,
healthy lifestyles and to create awareness on environ-
mental conservation within the water catchment areas
of Laikipia County. In the last 4 editions of the LU
Marathon, 3000 athletes have participated. We recent-
ly held an International Sports Conference whose
theme was “Sports for Sustainable Development in
Kenya and Beyond” which involved researchers,
sports managers in different organizations, coaches
and athletes.
Objectives of the Marathon
To market LU as a center of sports excel-
lence.
To establish a home for Kenyan athletes.
