(15) Description

The SIMATIC S7-300 analog input module SM 331 (AI 8 x TC/4 x RTD), Type 6ES7 331-7SF00-0AB0 is used for the connection of for instance temperature elements, resistance transmitters and voltage transmitters in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Ambient temperature range 0 °C to +60 °C.

Electrical data

Supply and bus circuits (connection of the SIMATIC -bus at the back):5,1 … 5,3 Vdc, approx. 60 mA; Um = 60 Vdc or 30 Vac.

Supply and input circuits (terminal 2 and 3; 4 and 5; 6 and 7; 8 and 9; 12 and 13; 14 and 15; 16 and 17; 18 and 19 of the 20 pins front connector):in type of protection intrinsic safety Ex ib IIC or Ex ib IIIC, with the following maximum values per circuit:Uo = 5,9 V; Io = 28,8 mA; Po = 41,4 mW; Co = 43 µF; Lo = 40 mH (Linear characteristic)

or for connection to a certified intrinsically safe active transmitter, with the following maximum values per circuit:Ui = ± 1,2 V; Ii = 20 mA; Co = 14,6 µF; Lo = 15 mH.

The intrinsically safe input circuits are infallibly galvanically separated from the supply and bus circuits.

Installation instructions

The instructions provided with the equipment shall be followed in detail to assure safe operation.

(16) Test Report

No. 2115807-3.

(17) Special conditions for safe use

The analog input module SM 331 (AI 8 x TC/4 x RTD), Type 6ES7 331-7SF00-0AB0 may be used in the SIMATIC S7-300 automation system of equipment category 3. The system shall be installed in a suitable enclosure providing a degree of protection of at least IP54 according to EN 60529 and complying with the requirements of EN 60079-15, taking into account the environmental conditions under which the equipment will be used.

When the temperature under rated conditions at the cable or conduit entry point, is higher than70 °C or when the temperature at the branching point of the conductors is higher than 80 °C, the temperature specification of the selected cable shall match with the actual temperature values.

During installation a minimum distance of 50 mm has to be guaranteed between the intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe circuits by using a separation wall, or the connection parts shall be additionally insulated (e.g. by heat-shrinkable tubing).
