When a high-efciency motor is tted to the most
efcient plug fan impeller, the result can be nothing
less than a new world record in terms of overall
fan/motor efciency.
Only two years ago Flkt Woods Centriow Plus
plug fan broke the records. The revolutionary fan
impeller increased the efciency by 10% compared
to the traditional plug fans and brought efciency
levels close to that of double inlet centrifugal fans.
The new Centriflow Plus EC offers even
better efficiency
The letters EC in the name refer to a highly efcient
motor which is driving the fan. The characteristics
of this ultramodern motor are superior. Comparedto the previous motors, its efciency is much better
and so it naturally enhances the overall efciency of
the fan.
The new Centriow Plus EC improves the world
record previously held by Centriow Plus in regard
to overall fan/motor efciency. The record-brea-
king efciency, on its part, results in astonishingly
low energy consumption and extremely affordable
life cycle costs. Compared to the traditional syn-
chronous AC motors the efciency of the EC motor
remains high over the whole range of operating
speeds.
Smaller and lower sound level with less
vibration
In addition to the higher efciency, EC motors also
have other characteristics valued by the manufactu-
rers of air handling units. The rst thing you noticeis that the EC motor is distinctly smaller than tradi-
tional AC motors making the total length of the fan
considerably shorter. In addition, the benets of the

EC is also suitable for vertical installation
Thanks to the new motor, Centriflow Plus EC functions asreliably in both vertical and horizontal positions. A versi-on is available for both positions. This provides additionaloptions to the designers of air handling units and enables
the design of such equipment to be even more compact interms of size.
What is an EC motor?
The term EC is applied to a DC motor having electroniccommutation achieved with a microprocessor. Commutationmeans applying a current to the motor phases to produce
the best torque at the motors shaft. In brush-type motors, commutation is done electromechanically by using graphi-
te brushes and a commutator. In brushless (EC) motors, however, it is achieved by switching electronics using rotor-position information obtained by HALL sensors. The motorruns on a DC voltage, but with a single phase 230V AC or
three phase 400V AC supply.

EC motor include a more balanced running and a
reduced motor noise level. The EC motor is control-
led with a separate regulating unit attached to the
motor thus without the need to control motor speed
by frequency inverter.
Functional and tested entity ready to be
used
The Centriow Plus products by Flkt Woods are
known not only for their energy-efciency but also
for their reliable technical values measured speci-
cally for each fan size. The same principle facilita-
ting the customers design work continues with the
EC motors. All technical data is based on individual
measurements.
A competitive entity is made up of the best
components
An air handling unit works as a whole, and its
performance is compared against its competitors by
highlighting certain properties. Efciency, energy
economy and noise levels are at the top of most bu-
yers checklist. When tting your air handling unit
with a Centriow Plus EC fan, you can be sure that
your unit will reach the top levels in all of these
important performance aspects.
Versatile selection program
The best way to ensure optimal and economic
efciency is through a correctly selected fan. Flkt
Woods has several selection programs for designerswhich help you nd the right fan characteristics.
best fan impeller and the best motor
The new motor isa space saver andmakes the entirefan considerablyshorter in length.
Centriflow Plus EC product line consists initially of six fan
sizes, which cover an air flow range of up to 2.2m3/swith maximum pressure rise of 1500 Pa.

The price for energy continues to rise and requirements for lower energy consump-tion tighten in every sector.
International environmental agreements will soon change from guidelines to
laws.
Energy-intensive products will get their own classications as a part of the direc-
tive on Energy-using Products (EuP). It is thus worthwhile to make smart, energy-
efcient solutions even today.
Choosing the right fan is cost-effective and saves energy
Buildings consume approx. 40% of all energy within
the EU area. The share of ventilation covers approxi-
mately one third of the overall energy consumptionin buildings and within
ventilation fans are the single most signicant factor
consuming energy. Therefore, a well-selected, econo-
mical fan in terms of energy use is the main compo-
nent for optimal energy consumption.
Overall efficiency is the deciding factor
The overall efciency is the best indicator of the ener-
gy-efciency of a fan. A useful measure is the Specic
Fan Power SFP. It is the fans electric power from the
mains divided by the fans rated
airow (SFP = PE/qv = kW/
m3/s). SFP is a quantity which
enables a straightforward comparison of fans by different
manufacturers at a given operating point, provided that the
electric power from the mains is calculated in the same way.
When calculating the specic fan power we take the follo-
wing factors into consideration:
Fan efciency at the operating point
Motor efciency, including partial load
Efciency of the speed controller, including the operating
point and its effect on the motor
Our manufacturing process is certified in accordance with ISO 9001and ISO 14001 system standards
