You may have seen the eye catching new bus advertising for the Centre, suggesting that you will be surprised what’s on at SEC. Of course, as a regular Centrestage subscriber it will be no surprise to you that this July edition is bursting at the seams with a wide variety of great shows to enjoy. The theme for winter is a Little Bit Country with a wide range of rock, country and cross over musical performances that have every popular aspect of the genre covered. From the Big Guns of Country on 22 July, through Dylan and Young on 27 August, the great musical play Always…Patsy Cline on 2 September and culminating with the great home grown legend John Williamson on 3 September. It’s not all country, though. The 1970s theme of our 40th anniversary continues with a newly announced show featuring local guitar virtuoso Peter Northcote with his special celebration of the The Songs of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd on 8 July. If Classical music is more to your taste, the Three Chinese Tenors will present their specially developed Christmas in July themed concert We Three Kings of Orient on 16 July, your local orchestra will Salute Stage and Screen on 4 September, and local talent will come to the fore at the Silver Anniversary Youth Music Awards event on 21 August. If your heart still belongs to the classic sounds of the ‘60s the ever popular Roy Orbison and Everly Brothers tribute show is on 20 August. Also still on sale are tickets to a new production developed by Denny Lawrence of Educating Rita on 15 July. We also have two great musical theatre shows – Rugby League the Musical on 30 August and a season of Young Frankenstein adapted from the classic Mel Brooks movie in late September. I haven’t even mentioned Back to the Golden Years latest matinee offering or our monthly movie Days…Let alone our pop-up café Eat’n Street appearing for lunch and breakfast every Saturday from 9 July. So, perhaps even our regular Centrestage readers will be surprised at what’s on at SEC this Winter! Scott O’Hara, Manager
