CACILM Multicountry Partnership Framework Support Project

The ADB-FAO Partnership Agreement foresees:– Inputs to the SLM-IS design phase– Provision of globally available

natural resource base data– Training and capacity building– Land degradation baseline in CAC

Implementation in collaboration withthe NSEC and the NSIU in each country

• FAO inputs to the SLM-IS Design phase and documentation

Mission of International Consultant (will continue after this workshop)– Assessment of existing relevant information and data

in the participating countries– Integration of land degradation indicators into the

SLM-IS considering LADA concepts and monitoring requirements of CACILM

• Provision of globally available baseline data

– FAO/LADA Land Use System (LUS) map for CACs including methodology, GIS routines and data bases

– Trends in Net primary Productivity (NPP) and Rainfall Use Efficiency (RUE) taking into account 23 years time series of NDVI data

– Building the basis for national land use systems (LUS) map

– Provision of LADA documentation in Russian language (as and when required)

• Preparation / refinement of the national land use systems (LUS) map

– Carried out by each country supported by a Letter of Agreement between FAO and the lead technical institution

– Provides the basis for national level assessment of land degradation

• FAO Multicountry Training Workshops on LADA methodologies and procedures for national level assessment of land degradation including

– Mapping

– WOCAT-Questionnaire (QM)

– Monitoring and Integration

• Implementation of WOCAT-QM and preparation of national land degradation baseline map– Carried out by each country supported by a Letter of

Agreement between FAO and the lead technical institution

– Provides the basis for local level assessment of land degradation and ground truthing of higher level results
