THE IMPORTANCE OF FIELD EXPERIENCEThe Center for Career Services collaborates with more than 450 companies and organizations. This allows students to access the business world early in their career through a number of internships, job positions, and the development of business projects. Under the supervision of teachers, managers, and entrepreneurs, students apply theories and concepts studied in class to practical, real-world cases. In addition, students have the opportunity to gain professional

experience immediately within a company, which helps them build, sooner and better, their so-called soft skills. They develop a positive approach toward problem solving, the ability to work in teams and in multicultural contexts, and the ability to meet deadlines and cultivate time management skills. These are the skills and experiences that allow our students to enter and succeed in this increasingly competitive professional world.

ORIENTATIONTO THE JOBMARKET AND PLACEMENTPlacement activities at John Cabot University connect the educational offers of the University with the best opportunities in the job market. Through a solid information service and personalized guidance, the University’s aim is to promote the integration of academics with the business world through internship positions in numerous public and private entities.

The Center for Career Services designs a personalized training process in which each participant can direct his/her own academic path. The process includes:

• Selecting a specific topic for the development of the individual’s projects, which is then shared with companies and partner institutions;

• Assistance during the hiring process given by company and/or partner institutions;

• Fulfillment of the position in accordance with the qualifications of the participant, the professional needs of the company/institution, and macroeconomic scenarios in terms of professional and business development.

Through the path described above, the Center for Career Services aims to help young individuals enter the job market and increase the chances of success for a quick and profitable integration of the participant in the professional world.

INTERNSHIPSOur internships are offered on the basis of merit and compatibility with the host organization, which evaluates and ultimately selects candidates. Internships are highly competitive; we do our best to assist students, but we do not guarantee that they will obtain an internship.

HOW TO APPLYOur internship catalogue can be accessed via the JCU Intranet. Internship and job opportunities are also posted on the bulletin boards and through our Facebook app Work for Us.

Once the student has chosen the internship he/she should send his/her cover letter and CV to [email protected].

Students do not have a limit on the number of positions to which they can apply, as long as they only apply to one company every 2-3 days.

REQUIREMENTSTo be eligible to apply for an internship through JCU Center for Career Services, students should have at least sophomore standing and a minimum GPA of 2.7.

TIME COMMITMENTWhile courses are taking place, the internship would be part-time, meaning on average 120-150 hours in total, to be distributed over the semester.Generally, interns work between 15 and 20 hours per week.

FOR-CREDIT INTERNSHIPSTo undertake a for-credit internship, students must obtain an internship, have junior standing, and a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Once the internship is obtained, students should follow these steps:

• Step 1: Notify the Center for Career Services that they wish to enroll in the for-credit internship class;

• Step 2: Obtain the Department Chair’s approval;• Step 3: Register on-line for the for-credit internship class

in their respective field of study (e.g., AH 398 Art History Internship; BUS 398 Business Internship, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS10 hours of in-class instruction.

• 120 or more hours worked;• daily internship log;• in-depth interview with the internship sponsor;• 2500- to 3500-word “white paper” presenting a position or

solution to a problem encountered by their employer.The for-credit internship course is graded on a “pass/no pass” basis. The course will begin the 4th week of each semester.

Students can take a for-credit internship course only once in their academic career.

CAREER FAIRCareer Fairs serve as an opportunity for students and alumni to begin investigating their future careers, exercise their interviewing skills, and potentially gain valuable work experience with various companies and organizations.

Every year we host three Career Fairs, where representatives of more than 100 companies come to JCU to meet and interview with interested students and graduates. Some of the companies of the latest Career Fairs include: UNICRI, FAO, INAER, Fintecna, Vatican Museums, YourCFO Consulting Group, Rocco Forte Hotels, Europcar, Page Personnel, Gi Group, Croce Rossa Italiana, Coca Cola Hellenic, Hays and Randstad.

VARIOUS SEMINARS ARE PROVIDED DURING THE WEEK OF EACH CAREER FAIR TO BETTER PREPARE STUDENTS AND ALUMNI WHO CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE.

FRANCESCA: “Very soon after my graduation, thanks to John Cabot University’s Center for Career Services, I had the chance to start a full time internship with Dorothy Circus Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Rome. This gallery focuses on exhibiting and sponsoring Pop Surrealism, a contemporary art movement born in the USA but now popular all over the world. Since the very first days, Dorothy Circus Gallery has stood out as a special place where I have met amazing people and gained an extremely wide knowledge about the management of an art gallery.”
